Morning, I cant sleep. Been awake for ages so got the laptop and came back to bed with a cuppa too. Mexico, my 2nd most favourite place in the world (my first is home) is Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific Coast. LOVE it, I have a friend who lives there. Until recently he ran his own tour company full time and I almost went out to live there and work with him. Then when it came to it I decided that as much as I love it there, I love living with seasons more. So backed out. Still try to go when I can though although I cant find it in any brochures at the moment.

Now swimming with dolphins!!!!!!!!! :eek::eek:
Dolphins and Whales are one of my passions and I have to say that I really rail against some of the opportunities to swim with dolphins. My friends business in fact is a tour company that takes people out to the ocean to see dolphins and whales in the wild. I swam with dolphins in the wild with him. This from the girl who is terrified of swimming. It was a most wonderful experience but not quite as amazing as sitting in the boat in the middle of the ocean whilst listening to whales singing. And then seeing a calf pop his head up right next to the boat.

I would suggest that if you want to swim with dolphins then do your research. A lot of these companies sell the tour as the dolphins doing this because they want to do it when, in reality, the dolphins have usually been taken from their mothers at an early age, have food withheld for hours before a "show" and not treated in the way that they would have you believe (companies in Mexico are particularly bad for this). I can also speak from experience as my ex OH decided to surprise me with a swim with dolphins experience in Mexico, which considering he had been married to me at this point for 10 years was strange because he knew how much I loved dolphins and how strongly I feel about captivation. Anyway I went along because I didnt want to upset him. The dolphin did not want to come into the pool, everybody else was unaware of the commotion going on in the background but I definitely saw what was happening because I didnt go with blinkers on.

Now I am, in no way trying to put you off. I just want you to have the most amazing experience that I had when I finally managed to go out in the wild with these beautiful mammals. I can ask my friend if there is anybody he could recommend on the Cancun coast for you. Or if you want to go over to Puerto Vallarta on the pacific coast I can arrange for my friend to set up a tour. These kind of tours usually work out much cheaper than going with the holiday company. Although there is no cast iron guarantee of swimming with them there is a very good chance of seeing them. I am sure he has contacts. Did you also know that there is opportunities to swim with a wild dolphin in Ireland. Also where I live in Cardigan Bay there are many dolphins here (in fact it is on my list to do some voluntary research work for them) and some people are lucky enough to swim with them.
Also I hear that the trips in Egypt (Sharm el Sheik I think) are very good. You can go diving and be surrounded by dolphins. And I hear it is quite cheap to get there at the moment.

I am in no way rich but I have had some of the most amazing experiences with wildlife by booking my own tours with locals.

Sorry for the long ramble but I am really keen to help people get the best experience they can from their holidays. And I am passionate about dolphins and whales, hence nearly making it my career.
