Is One-Day Insurance Certificate GOOD ENOUGH for TAX DISC?
Comments
-
Hi, i work for the Post Office and can confirm that a 1 day policy is acceptable to get your road tax. As long as the policy is vaild for the day you go in the Post Office. Crazy i know, DVLA set the rules and we just follow them. Every Post Office should be aware of this and shouldn't make there own rules. The Post office helpline will confirm this for you should you need further clarification, 08457223344.0

This thread is about using 1 day temp. insurance.
It is that question that I asked "How are you aware"! (The DVLA regs say to Post Offices they are NOT acceptable). The situation regarding jobsworth biddies saying NO to printed certificates is now covered! The DVLA regs says they are acceptable!
And it is no surprise to see you (a broker with more than just a passing interest) looking forward to us all having insurance regardless of whether we use the car or not!
Strange and selfish opinion to voice on a moneysaving website!
If you hadnt attacked what was an accurate post in the first place my posts thereafter wouldnt been dragged off topic.
What was a starnge comment was you telling the OP to go out and take a full 12 month policy without advising of the full implications when there are cheaper and better alternatives available.

If you took the trouble to read the advice, it was to get and cancel a 12 month policy within the cooling off period!
It comes as no surprise to see you criticise such a wheeze. How much commission do you get if anyone uses that wheeze?0 -

Nothing and nothing from short term insurance because I dont deal with either so kind of irelavent directing it at me. However it has bigger implacations telling someone to go down that route when there are clearly better options.
I took the trouble to read and it was still bad advice but I expect nothing better form you than an arguement especially when your wrong.0 -
As already posted, this thread is about single day short term insurance.
With single day insurance, they don't give you a cover note.
You get a certificate showing you have taken short term insurance and the validity of the policy being one day.
They are quite different.0 -
But if the DVLA confirmed you only need it to show the date you intend to tax it and duration doesn't matter, I fail to see how they are 'quite different'0

I haven't had a cover note for at least 20 years or so now.
I only ever get the insurance certificate for the car within a day or two.0 -

This is like a boring tennis match. The ball just goes back and forth over the net, and the whole thing seems pointless anyway.
You said you had been told your "cover note" was acceptable.adamc260 wrote:I called DVLA about 7 day cover, they said as long as theres cover for the day you go tax it it's fine... doesnt matter how long the covernote lasts for
A cover note is a quite different document to a single day insurance certificate!0 -
Ok Quentin..
So pointless that you feel the need to always respond0
