BTW: I don't think 64 cans of beans etc. is funny, I had about that amount of beef and bean soup from Approved Foods but hubby gave quite a bit of it away to DD. Still got about 40 I reckon. Also got about 7kg pasta, 3kg rice, 5kg oats, loads of other stuff. Following the preparing for winter thread though so that's what mine is for.Second purse £101/100

Hi Esther, although I love cooking my posts might be mundane so I apologise in advance! However, I need to let you know that OH has found a Mr. T club card voucher for £1!! (where from I don't know!) so he has decided to take me on a 'romantic walk' to our local Mr T. Express for dessert. I won't try to tempt you too much with the possibilities of a couple of doughnuts....... Is that a breach of no spend????!!!!!Sometimes, I can't see the wood for the trees - or the couscous for the quinoa... 3 no spends so far for August 2011!0

Still watching to see how you're doing.
Someone at work today queried a client's uncashed cheque and I said "I wonder if Bramble's cheque's cashed?"My coworker thought I'd lost my mind.
I can't wait to hear what you bought today. How said I am, being all interested in someone's shopping. For the record, I have the same unhealthy interest in looking in people's windows as I pass on the bus. I do find closed blinds VERY rude :rotfl:
I am also interested in other peoples shopping, cannot resist moving up the till to see what they bought and how much.
Not very interested in looking in windows but practically fall out the bus window if I see a colourful garden. Well it takes all sorts dont it.

This little 'tardis' is actually housed in the study as we have no space in the kitchen (more cupboards full...:o). I actually have a pic of this if anyone fancies a laugh - there are only two of us so I think maybe I should consider a no-spend year rather than month!!!!
Yes please ! And I'll be happy to show you a pic of my "larder" in return..... I keep overspill of food under the bedTiny kitchen, see. The freezer is in the shed, there is wine rack in there too housing jars, and the big sack of spuds lives under the dining table....
Okay, I sound like a bag lady now. Well - not bovvered.....0 -
Hi everyone - Bramble, I am so glad that things are more positive for you - keep your chin up!
Would you mind if I joined in a challenge with you for next month please? Found out today that the job OH had been promised (and had been actually working for the past four weeks) is 99% now not going ahead (it's a long story, we're both in education) so his wages will now only consist of a bit of teaching in term time (and that is set to decrease as the year progresses.....). Probably why I'm up fretting at this time (and I've got a lesson at 9.00!)
However, I do have a guilty little secret - my storecupboard. I'm not a hoarder, honest- however, due to very lean times as a child I have a tendency to keep a lot of food 'just in case'. So therefore, I intend to go for a complete 'no food spend' month. As well as my dried and jarred stores - gulping as she prepares to confess! which include 64 tins of beans, 8kg of pasta and 9kg rice (I know, it's terrible...:(), I also have a full freezer (meat, veg, fish) as well as a sack of onions and my breadmaker.... Would you guys mind if I tried this out and fed back on here?
We were planning to begin overpayments on my student/personal loans with OH's 'new' job, and I think that if I actually start using some of the stuff HoI have, I can still still do this.
Ramble over. Goodnight all and here's to porridge for breakfast!

Hoarding?: guilty secret? Sorry dont know how old you are but Hoarding was only frowned upon during the last War. I dont think anyone should feel guilty about stocking up on a bargain these days.
It just makes so much financial sense. carry on Love, doing fineSlimming World at target0 -
Morning all!!! we finally have loads of food and what did we have for dinner last night? Cheese on toast!! ahaha i went out with a friend (they paid !! ) and when we got in neither of us wanted to cook, and we decided to avoid the takeaway and opted for cheese on toast.
Got some marniated chicken drunmsticks and pork kebabs yesterday for the grand total of £1.69! so going again this afternoon to see if there is any summer produce left (the reduced it to £1 but the chicken was on its sell by so that was 69p and has gone in my freezer!)
Not sure what to do for dinner tonight, we usually do steak on a friday, but i'm no treally feeling it, got to go to butchers to get the dog some bones, so will maybe get him some rump steak and i'll have the kebabs with some jackets potatoes and the corn on the cob that i have in the freezer.
I can't wait to get in the kitchen and start baking tomorrow!! 1st on list is rhubarb crumble, then sausages rolls, and a carrot cake.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

mineallmine wrote: »So glad to hear how Bramble has been getting on. We had a simple meal last night of hot dogs with rolls from our bakers with loads of fried onions and some oven chips. Yum.
Hopefully a roast chicken tonight and leftovers for tomorrow.
Winged one - this is a really interesting idea of freezing crumble mix - err I feel daft asking but how do you make this? (PS I know I should know but errr your help is welcome!
Best of luck Bramble and keep going. Just be careful with the treats of wine and McDs. It'll be better to spread the treats out a little bit through the month. :A
Mineallmine, TBH I have NO idea what the recipe was now, it was just a general basic recipe from a book that I doubled or trebled, and froze the spare. I think I had a lot of butter that I wanted to use up or something and it has worked out very well. I am using the last little bit this weekend as it happens.
I DO know that it was plain mix, as I sometimes add some ginger for rhubarb, cinnamon for apple, etc but the basic mix was flour, butter and sugar only.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

Oh, and for those who are hoarders, don't feel guilty. I go through phases of almost empty cupboards, and then groaning ones. I buy my rice in 2kg bags, usually 2 easicook and a basmati at a go; and I tend to buy 4 or more 1kg bags of pasta when doing a "sdtocking up" shop in Sains.
I can actuallly see the base of the pasta/rice shelf this week, as I emptied 2 more bags (into the everyday glass jars on the shelf beside the cooker - I store the large bags up high that I can reach up to with the steps every few weeks). I am aiming for a quick spin up north before Christmas, and I might actually have the space cleared by then. (Before Christmas means I can get things before VAT rises and also before the real bad weather kicks in - just in case we get last year's freeze again!).GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897
