Acid leaking from batteries is unforgivable, in some peoples eyes.

There's no need to be so Two-Faced about this.

the batteries clearly failed before they should have done.

that could be down to poor quality or missuse by yourself, to pursue a damages claim it's up to you to prove which one it was.

however, even if you prove that it was poor quality that caused the batteries to fail your losses are minor.

unless you are blind or have lasting eye damage forget about any major payday's here.

after all, you put the battery acid in your eye, the batery didn't explode in your face did it? if you'd washed your hands after cleaning up the battery acid you would not have got the substance in your eye.

i'd complain to Asda but don't epect to make any money out of this, the best you can probably hope for is a small voucher for your (minor) inconvenience.

thats my view on the matter anyway.

i think some of the above posters are missing the point that they leaked with in 24 hours of using. We are not talking about a month of use in a high capacity appliance, Just a day

That is a very small amount of time for a battery to leak in. I would guess the battery was A) made poorly B) stored in unsuitble conditions.

Either is ASDA/manufacturer responsability and not the OP's
    And what point is that.

I recall the story of the guy who clianed his expensive cigars had been destroyed in a series of small fires and the insurance company paying out to replace these. They also chase him for causing the series of small fires and he was done for arson.

In this case, I would use C, OP is a numptie and used the items incorrectly.

So, accordingly, I suggest the OP contacts a decent solicitor and they sue OPs school as they have clearly not been able to educate them in the basics of reading.

What are you looking for from ASDA exactly?

"Some decent compensation", apparently. Which is more than £20 of shopping vouchers.

    Good luck with that one.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Have you actually contacted ASDA yet, if yours leaked then shouldn't they be told asap so that they can investigate/remove all on shelves as a safety issue?

I think the safety issue is with the OP. How do you think ASDA will deal with them?
  • IMO its your own fault for not washing your hands after handling the cloth, those things carry more germs than your average toilet seat
    mortui non mordent
  • Saw this on the news and thought maybe Asda have already sent him a new set of batteries.
