Screwed over by Sainsbury's Energy?
Hi all, I have a problem with my energy supplier that I was wondering if you had any advice on. January 06 whilst in shopping I got talked into signing up with Sainsbury's Energy. Feb 06 got a letter (which i still have) welcoming me to Sainsbury's Energy and swtiching my supplier from british gas/elec to scottishpower. My meter readings i fill out online and make payments as well. But since Feb 06 not a word, no nectar points, no bills (apart from online), nothing.
Then whilst in shopping today, I pick up a sainsburys energy leaflet, now supplied by EDF energy. Confused i phone up sainsburys energy to be told that they had been taken over by EDF from September 1 06 and surprise surprise have no record of my account. Why wasn't I told, why was I just dumped with scottishpower and why haven't i earned a single nectar point from changing from british gas? they told me to phone scottishpower (who are closed).
Can sainsburys energy legally do this? dump customers and never inform them of switches. Is there someone at sainsburys to complain to. I really am confused by this whole situation, anyone in the same boat or heard of this happening to anyone else?
Help as always greatly appreciated.

From doing a bit of googleing, sainsbury's energy WAS via scottish power. So Scottish Power would have been your electricity supplier but in addition you should have got the benefit of the sainsbury's bit. Have you had any bills? I'm not sure what you mean when you say "no bills (apart from online)". Have you had bills or not? Do you have an account number? Have you been paying? If you have had bills or any other correspondance, phone up whatever number is on the bills. If you should have had nectar points as well, take that up with them. If you haven't had any bills then you need to get them pronto to figure out how much you owe. I would think it will be scottish power you'll need to speak to, and there will probably be a "sainsbury's" section within their company.
Sainsburys are now doing a partnership with EDF who are another electricity supplier, but that will be only for new customers so I wouldn't think that will affect you (unless they move all their sainsburys via scottish power customers to EDF, but I would think that is unlikely).Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
have any nectar points shown up in your nectar points statement you get via the postNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have had bills but they come to my inbox as I enter meter readings in online and therefore it calcs my bill instantly and I pay it there and then.
No nectar points have ever shown up on my nectar statement. I tried to phone scottish power but they are closed (Saturday). I Do have a Sainsburys Energy account number and the lady I spoke to at EDF was stunned, I had been "left behind" as she put it. Don't know what to do, will phone Scottishpower on monday but surely I should have went to EDF automatically via Sainsburys Energy?0 -
As anniecave already said, I doubt very much that Scottish Power would have agreed to a deal where Sainsbury's could dump them and take their customers to a new electricity/gas partner.
Therefore it's not at all surprising that EDF have no record of you as one of their customers.
If their member of staff was "stunned" they are just poorly trained. It doesn't mean anything untoward has happened.
The only issue here is that you've had no Nectar points - that is a Sainsbury's issue, not an EDF one. Complain to Sainsbury's or Nectar.0 -
If you signed up just as Sainsbury's changed agent contracts to EDF then Scottish probably just nabbed you as their customer. If you are logging on to the Scottish website and paying them it would seem likely your Sainsbury's account was never activated, even although you have a reference number.
How much you make of this is up to you but its nothing very unusual in the energy industry for this kind of c0ck up.
Do you still want to switch to Sainsbury's? Check the various tarifs and move or stay as you see fit. I suspect it would cost you more in time and telephone calls to sort this out than the Nectar points are worth.

I have never received the 1000 points that I was promised from moving to Sainburys Energy (Scottish Power) and have called them twice about obtaining these. I was informed that it can take upwards of 3 month to add to my nectar account. I'm in th same poition with Sainsburys car insurance (awaiting 2 x 2,000 pts).
Suspect I'll be calling both of these companies again in the future.
The assistants on the nectar card line are unable to help with such matters and refer you to the product providers. One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.0
