MSE_Martin wrote:This has been a very difficult programme to film. Actually the situation is slightly different than described - it is a couple moving in together and he isn't aware of the size of her debts. Yet there are other case studies too including a revisit of the couple from a couple of Christmas's ago.
I must admit it is a difficult programme for me - my key as always is going in and trying to help with the finances, but of course as part of that we have a confession element in the programme. I'm not in charge of the edit part and I am worried that it is possible to edit it into a 'Jerry Springer' type programme - so cross your fingers for me.

 hi martin
glad to see you're being a good boy and staying in on a saturday night. why not pop along to the dfw party, don't forget your hat!
i can understand why it's such a difficult kind of program to do, debt is such an emotive subject and affects us all differently. i never kept my financial state from any of my partners and to be honest, struggle to see how a couple can become so close that they are moving in together but she has never told him how in debt she is. i guess to me it's a trust thing and if she didn't trust him enough to tell hm about her debts what else did she keep from him, and will he be able to trust her again.
i hope they can sort through their problems and everything works out for the best. unfortunatly i've realised i wont be able to watch it after all, no tv license at home and work/the gym closes at 6 on monday (local holiday).0 -
How awful for the couple. I've got half of that debt and I'm under no illusions that it's going to be a long hard slog. Hope it all works out for them.Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

I had a friend who's wife's favourite phrase was: "I hope you don't mind..."
It always meant that she'd bought something.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -

I've just watched a couple of the 'Britain Streets of Debt' episodes today, and the one with the old woman in Blackpool who has been ruthlessly pursued for a missed payment and subsequent missed payments on a 2K loan that amounted to over 100K. Wow how much she had lost and I thought it interesting and very intriuging that she was candid throughout about the problems i.e. her struggle with making ends meet, the stroke that here husband suffered that was probably brought on byh the worry, the furniture she had was from the tip and the fact that she missed meals for herself in order that her husband and kids didn't go without but when she got to the point that the court chucked out the repossession order and wrote off the debt (the fact that she was clear of all the mess) she broke down. How strong was that eh??This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
