One year for my Ds's birthday, we managed to get the kids footballs from one of the big discount sports shops for £1.19 each. Good leather balls, too. They got that and a piece of cake. The kids all thought it was fab, and I was delighted not to be sending home plastic nonsese. Tesco are another place which are'nt too bad for stuff, and Lidl's have had some nice pencil sets lately, if you have one locally they might have some left, you never know.
Yeah it is. First time he's ever asked for a party although when I told him where he said he wanted it at home :eek:
I might check out my Tesco's (although wanted to avoid the plastic stuff on the whole) and Aldi.
Nice to see the Home Bargains in West Mids - sadly they are no where near me

I can only ever remember one occasion when they came away from a party disappointed, and that was when they recevied a recycled bag with a packet of seeds in it. It didn't go down well, and I don't think the bags made it out of the car unfortunately.
We planted them and they didn't germinate!!
Just survived a 3 year old party this pm, and tesco good for bits. Poundland is apparently cheaper.

What about " The Works" (cheap) chain of bookshops if there is one near you for the packs of books plus they always have bits & bats, bubbles etc. Or have you any party shops near you or Matalan with party section.
My son recently went to a party where he got a wrapped present when he left which was a cheap canvas picture with paints included for him to do, he loved it had fun doing it & i got 5mins peace;),
I think they bought them from the Works & just included a balloon & slice of b'day cake it probably worked out cheaper than filling a bag of tat.0 -
I'm very lucky in that round here there seems to have been a written agreement to keep it cheap. I do a couple of sparkly pencils, 2 ballons, a mini mars, a lolly and cake.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

This lady does party bags as well as loads of other things-I had a beautiful nappy cake in shape of a train off her.Can only find this link for the face book page she has--she is on ebay as well. She gets nothing but praise from what Ive seen-and she does personalised bags as well-

Hi all,
Glad l found this thread... it's my little boys birthday this weekend. I've bought some party bags which l'm putting some small choccy bars and a piece of birthday cake in but l also have some books from poundland, question is would you wrap the books or not bother?? They're to large for the bags.
I've bought the wrapping paper but now l'm thinking be a better MS and leave unwrapped. The children are 4/5 years old, there are some girls same age they have hair stuff from poundland l've split that can fit in the bags.
I love doing party bags and also hate the plastic tat you get l never give it out.

I too hate the garbage that comes in party bags - I'd prefer a slice of birthday cake, a thank you note and no bag full of sweets and presents that are worth more than I paid for the birthday present I took with me!:o
I'd not wrap the books for going in the party bag.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
