If someone who is good at the legal bits etc could put a letter together and post it here and we could all send it in. Just a thought x0

Difference is you have a brain and a conscience...she has neither-and sorry to say...Im discharged and although I dont have the debt, I still have the guilt, and will every day for the rest of my life. And the shame...yep, that never leaves you either....0 -
Daft cow!
I cant understand why everyone on here is so angry! Its nothing to do with us. If she came up to me I would not even lend her a quid never mind £85,000.
There has to be some responsibility on the lenders - afterall its their greed and willingness that gets us in trouble in the first place.
Shes a fool but the people who gave her that money are even bigger fools.0 -
Unfortunately the Sun as a paper appeals to individuals of a certain intellectual level that forms a large proportion of the population.
Whilst our own situations may not be particularly "above board" in all aspects - we are not infallible - to have someone blatantly behaving in this manner is vile and not representative of each individual's situation.
What you have to remember is that for some people debt is so overwhelming that even the perceived stigma of BR is too much to impose upon their families that they seek a far more drastic solution to the issue. I hope that you will NEVER find yourself considering suicide as a means of escaping what for many is a living hell.
I trust this may go some way to answering why some people may be deeply upset by the article.
Additionally there are also a number of inaccuracies in the article which gives a false impression of what BR is - it is simply a sensationalist article designed to brainwash the sheeplike populace into having someone else to hate and feel superior to.
I'd suggest that boycotting the Sun and that particular newspaper group in general - I'd go for their competitors to put the story straight. Or go through the archives and see if they have any stories on debt suicide, see how they handled that.0 -
I will be doing my letter today but just thought I would add this:
Culprit: A culprit, under English law properly the prisoner at the bar, is one accused of a crime. The term is used, generally, of one guilty of an offence.
So according to that paper we are all guilty of a crime!! I will be adding that into my letter. I have it all worked out!
And agree totally with you Affluenza, wasn't there a story fairly recently of a man who committed suicide as he wanted to spare his family the stigma of BR?0 -

I recall 2 families/couples have died (murder/suicide?) in recent months, allegedly because of debt/threat of BR which makes this kind of reporting/person even more disgusting

No wonder the banks are so reticent to lend, with individuals like this so brazenly abusing the easy credit available a few years back. It makes me sick because creditworthy people who have no intention of defaulting on their loans/credit cards are being denied.0

Sadly, affluenza, I doubt anyone reading here is not already of this persuasion, for which read Anything Murdoch and All Associated Works.
So, for all its faults and despite the lack of Kate Muir as columnist[esp. in her Parisian days], despite ancient stumbles over Tisdall and a nasty Lance Tingay>Navratilova sneer, years ago, I remain Grauniad anchored on my one and only paper-buying day, Saturday.
And yes, I fail to engage with much of the trying-too-hard verbiage of the Listings mag, dislike Tim Dowling's column, find Luisa Dillner smug...but they rise, principles unbeholden, above other mastheads.
