  • Oh my God, we are in a right flipping flap about some spilt birdseed, an escaped budgie. I say it it time not to be really up the ante and get onto the Animal Rights activists.

Let's bring in the cat and give it a good swing.

(Note to those whom may be offended, I am already on a Yellow card for being such a nice person, the cat in this tale, is a cat of nine tails!)

And in the true spirirt of the Honourable Marc

    HOPE THIS HELPS
  • I used to put clothes pegs (the springy ones) on top of the latch so the budgie couldn't lift the door up to open it.

If you use the wooden springy ones they might just try and nibble the wood to shreds, so not sure if the plastic variety would be better?!

I wonder if a safety pin might do the trick, obviously pin
bit outside of cage! just something that came to me...

You seem to have confused "CONSUMER" rights with Animal rights. OP was asking for advice, not a sermon from the self proclaimed morality police.

I went in to a restaurant and asked for a steak, they served me pork. That wasn't what I asked for. Did you hear me complaining?

No. I wasn't in the restaurant... Did you consider the rights of pig or cow you ate?

    Not from here no.....

I do hope you thoroughly researched the ethical treatment of the pig in question before you ate it ;)

I don't agree with people keeping wild animals in small cages.

Would you rather the bird escaped. Realistically how long would it last in the wild. 1 hour or 2?

Do we know it was a small cage?

Not sure your view is relevant to a "Consumer Advice" board...

    By the OP's own admission:

It wasn't a cheap cage it cost £40. And it's quite roomy...for a little bird.....

And it's as relevant as your question.

I would rather they were not sold at all.

I think you are getting confused. OP said it was "rather roomy".

Yet to see how your "advice" assists.

My friend had this demented hamster, Houdini. He could escape from anywhere. In the end she had to resort to keeping him in a upturned bucket. He died fairly quickly, his demise hastened, no doubt, by his unstimulating living arrangements. That's probably how your budgie feels.
