I think I know the kind of thing you mean. My old budgie escaped from one like that too.

You're full of jokes aren't you?

Could I please have some serious replies? I want to return it very soon and would like to know my rights....

    What about the budgie's rights?

Anyway, just ask for your money back as I'm sure they'll still have it in the trill.

If you were locked up in a cage all day.... would you try and get out?

Name the bird Houdini! Seriously it shouldn't be that difficult to stop it escaping with a bit of DIY. Oh and £40 isn't expensive for a cage.
  • I would try to get the cage swapped but otherwise if they dont let you how about replaing with a food bowl and keeping lid down but when you are in the room let birdie have a bit of escape time.
my daughters cockatiel comes in and out when i leave his cage open so he has his choice of freedom when we are around to supervise.
it may be you want to clip his wings so he cant get too far- I clip our birds (cockatiel and lovebirds) and they can fly so much but not to the point they could fly off.

  • I definitely wouldn't clip his wings, there's really no need to. It's quite stressful for them to have it done (especially if they dislike being handled) and if it's done badly they can't fly at all. Just make sure you keep the windows and doors closed when he's out.

How are you going to take the cage back without the bird in it?

I'd take the footage along and ask them for a different feeder for free, then cover the hole up with something non toxic to the budgie.

I don't agree with people keeping wild animals in small cages.

Do we know it was a small cage?

Not sure your view is relevant to a "Consumer Advice" board...

You seem to have confused "CONSUMER" rights with Animal rights. OP was asking for advice, not a sermon from the self proclaimed morality police.
