Refused money back

Options
I recently purchased a set of roof bars from Halfords and they were fitted by the Halfords representative (£19.99 for the 'privelege'). After driving on the motorway for the first time since the bars were fitted it was clear that a terrible high picthced whistle was evident after 60 mph (unbearable noise). The Halfords store manager has refused to refund me, I have the receipt, on the grounds that the goods were not damaged and therefore must be returned complete with packaging. The packaging was never offered to me nor was it made clear that it would be required for future returns at time of fitting. My grounds for return are that the bars are not fit for purpose, but the store manager says all bars 'whistle'. We had to repace the Hafords roof bars with a more expensive set, also bought and fitted from Halfords whilst on holiday without a problem. These perform with a minor whistling sound which is barely audible, the original bars produced an unbearable whistling noise.

How can I prove how bad the whistling was ?

How can I prove the packaging was never provided at the time of fitting ?

Help .....!!

If you pay less money then your bound to get cheaper quality.

I blame the wind on this :).

To be fair, roof bars shouldnt* make any noise.

    * Provided you buy a decent product which is obviously hard at halfords.

As said, you get what you pay for

I know my own and others make no noise, or have i just imagined that because you think you know all.

What you buy at halfords is overpriced tat, that will inevitably make noise, a decent set of mont blancs or paddy hopkirks, which cost a lot in comparison, inevitably, dont. Quality improves with price, strange isnt it?

Oh and not all roofbars are square, funnily enough, they dont make noise either.

Quite a grudge you have against Halfords isn't it?

As I've said, all roofbars make noise, none are silent regardless of how much you've been conned into spending on the basis that they make no noise whatsoever.

Less noise perhaps, but not no noise.

Inevitably you will now continue to claim that you have magical roof bars that make "no noise" but they will generate more noise just like anything attached to the roof of your car.

I have a grudge against sarcastic trolls who seem to pick arguments with something they cannot possibly have grounds to deny. Ie. you cannot say that mine and others bars make noise when you havnt used them.

Of course the bars make some noise, but its so inaudible that it might as well be no noise as even the faintest tyre roar covers it up. You just have to be pedantic to make your point.

All im saying is that not all bars are tat and make this noise. So insulting the op by saying anyone with half a brain knows they make noise is over the top and not true.

Or maybe you literally meant that you only have half a brain so think all bars make this loud noise, seems more likely?

Of course seeing as my own experiences conflict with your opinion i must be lying so you, inevitably will return the insults which you started.

My dad had the same problem, he used a polythene cover wraped around the luggage and tucked in, then tied down with bungees, this used to stop the noise whilst protecting the luggage.
  • So did you get a refund in the end?
