I can recommend cancelling Sky and getting a much better system. I bought a Foxsat HDR box which is way classier and better built than the Sky + to go with my Sony Bravia telly.
I have saved myself £40 a month and peace of mind as I dont have to deal with Sky's non existant Customer Service Dept.
If you have the dish and all the cabling in your home setting up the Foxsat box was no trouble and I have to say have not missed all the rubbish and repeats that I was getting on Sky.0 -
If only I could persuade my wife that we do not need Hallmark, Living, SyFy and can't remember the other one, I would get freesat and get rid of Sky+0

We've recently gone down this route. Cancelled $ky in July when we decided enough was enough. We had the full package at a cost of £48.50 per mth and got fed up with the ever increasing subs.
We bought a Humax Foxstat HDR and have not been disappointed. It has everything that the Sky+ box had plus HD (albeit a limited amount of HD channels at present), It was extremely easy to install/connect just utilized the existing Sky+ cables from the dish. Have kept our old $ky+ box connected also (we've a quad LNB on the dish), for the odd channels not available on Freesat. Yr existing card works as a FreesatFromSky card when you no longer subscribe to Sky. Although there is not the vast range of channels compared to Sky, there is still plenty to watch and record.
We also replaced our ageing Philips TV for the latest Panasonic Neo Pdp Plasma TV which together with the Humax Foxstat HDR will pay for themselves in just over 2 years at the present Sky full package monthly rate.0 -
If you do a "non freesat" search in manual tune mode on a Humax Foxsat you may be able to get more channels0

In using a Humax Foxsat HDR for nearly 2 years, I haven't yet found that it has an unreliable series link - care to explain?
OP - you probably know by now that a Freesat box will plug directly in to replace a Sky box. Foxsat HDR is the one to go for at around £240.
Or £209 at Amazon..;)0 -
Hi I currently have sky plus which is about the only thing i like about sky, the ability to live pause and record etc.
I have the satelite dish and i also have a digital television.
I dont have any plans on changing my television so i'm not bothered about going HD
My plan is to cancel sky and buy a free sat plus recorder so that i will still have the ability to live pause etc
If anyone can give me some advice as to which is the best box to buy etc i would be most grateful.

I got rid of my Sky+ after 10 years and bought a Humax Foxsat HDR box which is so fantastic. It has a much larger hard disk than the Sky one and the look of it is way classier. It is costly to buy but if you are like me with the savings from your monthly rental with Sky it will have been paid within the first year.0
