This thread has given me some inspiration for when I get cravings, more the morning-after the night before than anything else!

For me though, it has to be a cheese and pickle toastie. Simple, melted and tasty! Once you've had pickle in a toastie you'll never go without!
  • Hmmm THAT time cravings for me are usually settled with a nice big baked potato, lots of butter and something equally starchy but sweet like a crumble for afterwardses...

In DIRE emergencies in work, I send one of the blokes to the butty shop and I have chocolate chocolate and plain walkers crisps ....

    Hits the spot every time!

Mashed up sardines and grated onion, put under the grill on toast till they start to sizzle then add grated cheese and a sprinkle of Lea+Perrins, allow to bubble and brown ! LUSH !

  • Mashed ripe bananas mixed with raisins, an egg and some flour, fry dollops of this in a little bit of butter until crispy and brown on both sides. Lower fat than cake (as long as you don't use too much butter!!!), no added sugar, and you can count it towards your five a day....

Emergency store cupboard comfort food for when I know that if I go to the shops I'll buy and eat at least 200g of chocolate.
  • As soon as I saw this post I knew it would make me hungry.

Mine is probably cheese on toast, or cheesy mash - and I like the cheese on top to be nicely browned - yum, I can almost taste it.

My ex and I used to make pizza toasts. Bread toasted on one side, the other spread with tomato puree or pasta sauce, then any cheese and veg you fancy, topped off with italian herbs.

Also, toast (well toasted, to the point of nearly over done) and marmite.

    And, banana porrige.

    Hungry now :D
    Looking forward to the future.
  • OK I have a new favourite....just made it and I'm sitting here in a carb based bliss....

Take half a packet of shortcrust pastry - about 8oz...
Roll it out into an oblong about 30x20cms
Smear it with LOADS of golden syrup
Roll it up like a swiss roll
Stick it in an ovenproof dish
    Pour milk round it
    Bake for 30mins

It's heaven.....all the syrup leaks out and mingles with the milk to make a glossy syrup...pour on custard and eat until you burst....it's one of Nigella's recipes and it says serves four...or under certain extreme circumstances one.

We just split it between two of us and I now have a sugar headache :D
