I'm talking about the food you just have to eat at 'that time' when you get the sugar and carb cravings.
I have absolutely no chocolate (or even chocolate flavouring) in the house  (methinks my health kick has gone a little too far).
I do however have the makings of a cake (eggs, flour, butter), a large pot of natural yogurt, 2 packets of ginger biscuits (intended for a cheesecake base), a bag of sultanas and a box of icing sugar.
Any ideas for a real stick-to-your-ribs carb hit? A floaty little fairy cake (or 20) just isn't going to do the job

Mine is Bubble & Squeak
Mash spuds
Cabbage
Fried onion
Any leftover veg
Mash all together except fried onion. Put fried onion on top-cook in oven for 10 mins then add grated cheddar and cook for a further 15mins.
Serve with loads of HP sauce!

Thanks
Never been one for savoury comfort food, so don't think bubble & squeak will work, but thank you for the thought.
Think it may well have to be fairy cakes/sponge cake - although as I said, not sure if it will have the desired effect, but it'll be fun finding out lol

A big stack of ginger biscuits and a glass of ice cold milk would do me right now.
No sugary snacks at all in house at moment, we have given them up until xmas.
Once when the kids were littlies (baby is now 15) i got the munchies and resorted to raiding the kids coat pockets for a half a bag of chocolate buttons.:rotfl: :rotfl: So know how you feel.

earthmother...I think that under the circumstances I'd sacrifice a packet of ginger nuts. Go straight to them, dunk one at a time in big cup of tea (if you have tea other wise eat neat) and don't count, ,just keep eating. Can't believe you are considering baking in this emergency situation!!!0

earthmother, I am having the "time of the month" from hell at the moment. I suspect I am going through the early stages of "the change" (that always sounded witchy to me and now it makes me laugh at the thought - well I can be pretty witchy at this time of the month!! :rotfl: )
Go for it girl. The only thing that is reining me in at the moment is Walkers Spicy Chilli crisps and some drinkable (I didn't say palatable, lol) white wine.
Enjoy your Friday night, girl! I certainly am!!!!!"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

something I shouldn't even look at:
take some slices of yesterday's bread. Beat an egg well and add some milk. Soak the bread in the mixture and fry in olive oil. Put on plate lined with kitchen towels and lace with sugar and cinammon.

With a slightly edgy feeling:eek: (being not a lady)  I would probably offer up rock cakes being a bit easier than fairy cakes.:o I've often made them for friends as they're really quick.
Recipie (I believe) is
3oz butter
3oz sugar
8oz Self Raising Flour
6oz Sultanas
1 egg
a little mik
Rub butter into flour. Add sugar. Mix in beaten egg and enough milk to make a stiff sticky consistency. Put dessert spoons of the mix on a greased baking tray. I normally sprinkle over a little granulated/demerera sugar. Bake in a preheated oven at 220C for about 10 mins.
If you had chocolate chips you could use them instead of sultanas:D , or even replace a bit of the flour with cocoa:D:D . I still like them with the sultanas though!:D :
Mind you I agree with SnowyOwl!
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -

I now have a massive ginger nut craving!
In the absense of chocolate or cheesecake, you can't beat toast. Big thick slices of toast, with as much butter (no substitutes) that you can cram on it, and them loads of jam. I can eat as many slices as I can fit under the grill!0
