Royal Mail Screw-up

Options
I posted a nice thread earlier, praising a company.
So now I'm going to moan about one. :P

Royal Mail are going downhill fast.

In the past 2 months they have "lost" 3 letters that I sent Recorded Delivery. And an additional 1 didn't even get signed for, was just shoved through the letterbox with the rest of the letters.
One missing is annoying, but can be let-go, but 3 is just outrageous.

1 contained people's personal details (full name, age, address, etc) - which is why I sent it RD - they're mow floating around somewhere in the postal system.
And 1 contained a cheque for £150 and £50 cash.
Now, RM have since told me that I should have sent the money via Special Delivery. The women in my local PO knew what was in the letter and failed to advise me on this. So now I cannot claim compensation (according to Customer Service - their joke too).
Whilst my cheque can be cancelled. I am now £50 short as I had to resend the money (Special delivery this time ;) )

So, so angry with RM. And their incompetent staff.
3 bloody letters disappear.
Grrrrr.

Rant over. :)

  • I sent a parcel by recorded delivery on the 9th Aug, delivery tried on the 10th but refused and now 19 later it still hasn't been returned to me, (I know I can claim but I have to wait for 15 working days which isn't until next Wednesday!!!) :( but where has my parcel gone?? it wasn't small it was quite a large box with return details on....not happy

I really hope you get some joy out of them. *crossed fingers*
I waited the 15 days and the bloke on the phone - as helpful as he could be, still not helpful enough - told me it was officially declared as lost but unless they could find the letter I wouldn't get the money back as they don't compensate for over £40. :(
Do you know why your parcel was refused? Such a pain!

:( rather red faced I mixed up the house number put 23 and not 32 so was my fault at the start but still no reason why it has not been returned..

    Oh, I see.
That is an easy mistake to make. I missed out a number entirely once before. Lol.
Yes, is very strange they have taken so long. Grrrr.
All these strikes they hold, over wanting more pay, I don't think they deserve it if they can't do their job correctly. Lol.
  • I just hope they pay out when I can eventually make a claim.

Yes, well fingers crossed on that too.
But if what's inside is over £40 I think it may be hard to get anything from them. :(
I hope you prove me wrong though! :)
  • It was £20 plus £5 something on postage..
  • I'm really wary of recorded delivery - I've sent 5 items recorded over the last couple of years - 3 of which have got lost along the way.

I've sent many many more items via standard mail and to my knowledge not a single one has been lost.

Attaching a recorded delivery label to a letter or package is like hanging a big neon arrow above it saying 'This Item Is Valuable'.

what strike was over pay? i enjoy these generalisations so feel free to provide the info
now could it be,and its a crazy thought
but the cuts in 000's of staff year on year could have some bearing on this?
could RM's cutting in services/staff levels have some bearing?
just so you know.the last 'deal' saw RM delivery staff take a wage cut and increase in workload

My aunt works for Royal Mail in the sorting office.
    She striked over pay.
    That's my info. :)
