Baliffs are !!!!!!, in some cases a debt of £1000 to a court can add up to £1500 with there charges, if the law hasnt changed the baliffs only get given 3 chances to contact you by the court, if they fail to do so, i.e. you ignore them, the debt is passed back to the court as they havent done there job, ALL of the baliffs charges are removed and you can approach the court and pay only the origional charge, worth finding out if this is still correct, could save you a fortune in the long run0

I don't have any experience of baliffs whatsoever but i'm guessing it's a last resort for those companies wishing to collect the money they are owed. what sort of circumstances or behaviour would lead to them contacting you in the first place?
I appreciate that some may be over zealous, you get those everywhere, but aren't they just doing a job? I can only imagine they've developed a thick skin over the years from the constant abuse they must receive.0 -
Thanks for your advice. I will be paying he on the path. Its already in an envlope he could have called anytime this week so i'm ready to rock...Emmzi wrote:Annie,
on a serious note, don't let him INSIDE your house. I think there's then a percieved right to re-enter if he finds a window open etc in the future!(bit like vampires once they've been invited over the threshold.)
I know it's inconvenient, but make him wait on the doorstep behind a locked door while you sort out what he is getting.Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

Not sure. The case is with both the local council and our MP as they seem to be claiming monies that they are not entitled to. So will look into your advice tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to help.kaya wrote:Baliffs are !!!!!!, in some cases a debt of £1000 to a court can add up to £1500 with there charges, if the law hasnt changed the baliffs only get given 3 chances to contact you by the court, if they fail to do so, i.e. you ignore them, the debt is passed back to the court as they havent done there job, ALL of the baliffs charges are removed and you can approach the court and pay only the origional charge, worth finding out if this is still correct, could save you a fortune in the long runBlind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

Have a look at the following link, as posted by Skint1, and then decide if any bailiff deserves your sympathy.
https://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/...n page id=1770
PS I hope I did the link correctly - if not look at the thread started by Skint1.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

DFW Nerd # 166 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS0 -
To be totally honest this is entirley my own fault. A fault that I accept TOTAL responsibility for. Briefly we are well on track to clearing our debts(as catalouged in other posts) However when DH's health broke down again(very unexpectley). . I did exactly the opposite of what I should have done-ie I ignored the council tax and didn't contact anybody Stupid I know. We are now in a position to clear ALL of the arrears in two payments(this week and in two weeks hence) I have already paid the Sep and Oct payments directly to the council. I will hopefully never have to deal with any bailiff again. I honestly have never been stroopy, unhelpful or rude. This is all of my own making and I accept full responsibility.dudleyboy wrote:I don't have any experience of baliffs whatsoever but i'm guessing it's a last resort for those companies wishing to collect the money they are owed. what sort of circumstances or behaviour would lead to them contacting you in the first place?

Have just noted that there is a programme to be shown about Bailiffs and some of their dodgy practices on BBC1 in "Whistleblowers" on Tuesday 26th September at 9pm - journalist went undercover. Might be of interest.0

Hi anniestar
I have read the entire thread, and you owe no apologies to anyone. Good luck in the future. You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0 -
Yes I think that a good one for the "you couldn't make it up file". Maybe he's hoping it makes him appear more human, just don't get caught phoning him in the future for some free therapy at your cost
