Adrian flux insure the boy racer and modified set, no hint at the OP son but it does mean youngsters can get a deal.
Direct line will beat any like for like quote, they garuntee it on their website so go to flux, get a quote then get to direct line for a more regular company.
Named drivers earn their own NCD with direct line so if you did go for the dodgy option, in year 2 he would be in a stronger position.Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!0 -
Oddly, I found that 3rd PFT came out more expensive than fully comp in most cases!
The number of people doing TPF&T is tiny nowadays compared to the historical numbers. So, the pool of cross subsidy is much smaller. Also, typically, the people that would do TPF&T historically (and generically) are more likely to be those that have a claim. So, a small pool or higher risk drivers has pushed the price up so its often more expensive than going Fully Comp.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). For a 1.3 Ford Ka 2000 reg with him having passed 3 months ago the "best" quote is now £5631 with a total excess of £650 :-( Adding my wife as additional named driver drops it to £4700 adding me on drops it to £4610 (so I need another 46 people who want to be named drivers and we're away) ;-)
Bloody ridiculous - almost encouraging you to fiddle the system or even not bother with insuring old bangers :-( (Not that I will be doing!! just saying how's it supposed to encourage insuring)0 -
I have an office junior at work, he is male 19/20 and drives a reasonably new fiesta with 2 years no claims and he is still about the £1500 mark which he assures me is a good quote. Makes me glad i'm female and older.
In 1998 i passed and insured a 6 year old 1.3 escort lx and it was about £700 i thinkMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -
One of my first cars was a supercharged 1600cc beach buggy, I can't remember the insurance but it was certainly affordable then.0

My 21 year old passed his test in May this year. He's just bought a 2001 Fiesta, 1.2 and I'm shopping around trying to find insurance. He's been riding a 125cc motorbike for over a year and has a year's no claims on that. He also drives a work van, for which he's been insured on company insurance since he passed his test. But, the cheapest quotes I'm coming up with at the moment, from the big comparison sites, are in the region of £1700. Does anyone know if there are companies that will accept the no claims on the bike's insurance towards car insurance? Otherwise it's looking like he won't be able to insure the car!!
Oh just tried Quinn, and they quoted £2989!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
