  • i use the recipe i have for millies cookies
    the only thing i do different than when i make them myself is, instead of using vanilla extract, i make vanilla sugar and add that instead of ordinary granulated

    i also make my own vanilla extract and bottle it, there are a couple fo people i give it to, but not all

    once you make millies cookies you never want anything else!
    they are soft & chewy cookies

    they have to add butter & an egg

    Millie’s cookies

    3oz butter;
    3oz granulated sugar;
    3oz muscovado sugar;
    Tsp vanilla extract;
    1 egg;
    6oz self raising flour;
    Pinch salt;
    4oz of choc chips or raisins or dried apricots or whatever you want to add.

    Method: preheat oven to 180 degrees; mix all ingredients together; put spoonfuls onto trays covered with greaseproof paper; cook for 11 minutes.

    I want to go a make them just now...........

    What I might do then is get the sugar and put in a vanilla pod in with it, and when ready to parcel up the cookie jars the vanilla sugar will be ready.....

    how do you make vanilla extract?

    Thanks so much.. so you dont need a cutter for those then. :)

  • no, no cutter needed

    vanilla extract is easy
    vodka and fat madascan vanilla pods

    slit pods, into vodka
    shake
    and wait

    i shall take a photo of the one i am using just now in the morning
    my lappy isnt happy with photobucket tonight and keeps closing it due to malware
    that and the fact i only have temp lights in the kitchen just now due to work being done and its rubbish for pics

    it seems expensive but its not
    i was paying £7 for a small bottle of extract

    there is a brill seller on ebay i get the pods from
    they are fat & juicy & lush and cheap!
  • Hi
    could someone pls help me? I've just made some toffee vodka (vodka mixed with werthers originals) but its still very strong. How can i calm it down a bit? Can i mix in single cream to make it smoother and less strong? Will that keep or will it curdle?
    Many thanks :)
  • i wouldnt add cream

    at the moment, you have "toffee" in vodka
    its preserved
    it has a long shelf life

    your cream will have a short shelf life, and after that will start to deteriorate
    i am really unsure, but i am thinking about this from a culinary point of view, rather than a drinkers, i dont drink at all, i can only go on what other people say about the taste

    it will be strong, but experience tells me, if people think its too strong they will add it to coffee, or add cream themselves at the time of drinking

    all^^^ is purely guess work

    see what others say before doing anything

    Cream will also split it. Could you not add more toffee? what were the quantities?

    Thanks so much kms26 - I wouldn't have considered the supermarkets, but now that I think about it my Sainsbury's actually has a big baking section.
