Hi everyone hope you don't mind another one joining :)
Im getting the crafty bug (although am hoping for easy tutorials :o) so many things I want to do but don't know where to start so am going to have to get reading! I really must get a sewing machine and learn how to use one. For instance I just read about your fabric hearts and thought 'oh they sound really lovely.....ive got no chance of making them yet though' :( but ill get there, im just excited about trying at the moment :)

emzy - I don't have a sewing machine but still manage the fabric hearts. If the material can be cut so it doesn't fray I just blanket stitch around the edge, stuff it and add a ribbon and button to finish it off. If its likely to fray, just tuck the fabric in as you go along.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Thanks for that Mary-op ill have to give them a go :)
  • I forgot to say, that once you have all of your basics, (and considering all of the easy tutorials and links we post) you'll probably catch the crafty bug, the symptoms are...
1.carrying a notepad at all times as you never know when those inspiring ideas will pop up
2.thinking about craft non stop, even in the supermarket when looking at a tin of beans and deciding if you should buy a bigger tin as the tin can may be of use after dinner :rotfl:
3.Having crafty eureeka moments while cooking dinner, on the loo, brushing your teeth,
4.Seeing a pack of eyelets and telling your hubby/partner/children you must have them as they could 'come in use' at some point in the future,
5.Dreaming of owning a sizzix/cricut/fiskars anything/potters wheel/silver clay/craft studio! and working out what you can cut down just to be able to afford it, :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

No seriously i was going to say.. that if you make a few of your crafty items, you could start an Etsy/Folksy/MISI (make it sell it) shop/s to keep you busy and earn some money while your not working,
You never know it may become a full time career if you find the craft you love doing :T

thanks for a lovely welcome. i do beleiev i may have the bug! i have some symptoms- what should i so? jsut feed them!? :D
  • this is a bit of a rubbish picture, sorry
but the heart on the far left, was done by hand

i cut with pinking shears to stop the fraying
and stitched (i dont know the name) but just up and down all the way round, so it look like wee lines??

mary will know what its called!!

    you dont need a machine

i am not good with a needle at all
and i can make them by hand as quick as with the machine as you need to keep turning and lifting the foot

the machine ones i make inside out and turn
i use a little rice in the bottom to make a truer point
and then stuff & add lavender or lemon balm

lemon balm grows like wildfire and drys a treat
i love the old fashioned smell of it, its lovely

you will sweat............sniping lovely things on ebay
you will get palpatations.............waiting the postman
you will get tremors...........opening packages of lush things you ordered

    its all downhill from here:rotfl:

Yea i'm at the same stage. Need a machine and learn how to use it! Just like I want to make pretty cakes with icing on top but I need to learn how to make and decorate with the icing!
