pointofnoreturn -where did you get the santa cutlery holders from -or could I concoct one from felt do you think ?

Mary - as qwiksave said - I am in the US at the moment so bought the kit here. I think you could do it yourself by cutting the felt pieces and placing them onto the main front shape and then stitching around to secure everything in place and add sequins. You then just cut a back piece of felt to the same shape as the main front piece and attach it with running stitch to the front piece.

When I get home I will try and put together a tutorial for it as I have tried to make a paper pattern of the pieces as some of them were just printed onto the felt.

I'm going to use them to hold santa chocolates for my niece I think!

They also had holly wreaths and snowmen so you could do other designs.

wanted to try and make strawberry soaps for the top of my flannel cupcakes this year, i wanted the stalks to be green though as most are just solid red

  • :(they look better in the photo than they do in RL i'm afraid

all the ones i have looked at, the stalks are red as well
    now i know why
they are a bit messy at the top
hoping to make them a bit more defined
  • Hello everyone!! Wow, so many lovely things!! Those strawberry soaps look good enough to eat!! babymoo - get well soon!

I've had some success and some not so much....

Made a huge jar of pickles onions which look fab, and also raspberry vodka, toffee vodka and blueberry vodka - all of which look delicious (no idea how they'll taste!!), but had an absolute disaster with plum chutney. Clearly simmered it for far too long as it looks like tar, tastes vile and has also managed to stink my entire house out!! Any tips for getting rid of vinegar smells from a room ladies?!!? :-)

Oh dear - what a shame. Your vodka's sound nice though. You could try cutting up a fresh lemon into quarters and boiling it in water - sometimes the smell can come out into the room and get rid of cooking smells.

  • Phew just finished reading the entire thread!

    Hello :waves:
I'm so inspired now, you're all so creative and clever.

I've never really succesfully made anything before which didn't look naff but I'm going to give it a whirl this christmas.

earlier in the thread there was a link to print pretty paper but i didn't bookmark it..Does anyone know which I mean? I can' find it now. I have a little staitonary box I want to cover and fill with different fudges for my dad.

Also hoping to try choc slabs, flavoured vodkas, covered picture frames (thinking of covering a cheap frame in buttons :o).

Would also like to make covered journals but this is the type of thing that always turn out looking shabby (without the chic) when i try it.
    Are there any online tutorials?

Also a year or two back a thread had sweety gifts for kids where the sweets looked like they were exploding...does anyone know where this thread lives now?

Also...(sorry)...would like to make my mum a peg bag....does anyone have a nice simple method?

I'm not too bad with foody stuff but carp at everything else

    Thanks for the thread..its wonderful!:A:A

My partner once made me an SOS box- loved it!
I'm not very girly, and I love cars, so it was full of cableties, screwdrivers, solvent, assorted nuts, pins and screws, socket wrench, hammer etc.... was very thoughtful.

  • Hi, not sure if I can just jump in here with both feet ( I'm new!)?

Anyway, I am planning on making lots of things for this christmas and am really looking forward to people recieving their home made gifts. Luckily everyone I give to appreciates the thought and work that goes into them, rather than a last minuite dash into town!

    I am making:
Soft toys for my 2 young children & maybe one for my dad
Wooden keepsake boxes hand painted with their faveouurite themes ( fairies & space) & quotes from a special story book.
Wooden jewelery boxes again handpainted in each recipients favoutite colours.
    Jams and chutneys
Gingerbread men & Shortie in jars ( tied up nicely with christmas ribon and a nice tag)
Pots of gold for all the adults - although the way I do them doesn't seem the same as I have read described on here :S
    Snowman soup
    Night in bags
    Peppermint creams
The kids handprints and a nice poem - which I might embrioder if I pull my finger out!!
And maybe an embroidery poem for mum & a cross stitch for my daughters room if I have time.
