I know we've not made it to Christmas yet, but a quick question: what happens after Xmas to the thread... obviously it's not 'Handmade Xmas 2010', but it'd still be great to see all your makes
Will there be another 'handmade' thread to follow?_____________________________________________party_ Handmade Christmas and Occassions 2011 _party_OS Moneysaving as much as I canGonna live 'The Good Life' - grow my own and 4 hens

sarymclary Love the idea of the post boxes...... what did you bake them in? Also how did you make the chocoalte on the sticks? The choccies look great, i was going to make some but my thermometer got broken in the post!! So making truffles instead.
The cakes were baked in empty, washed out bean cans, lined with greaseproof paper. The cakes took about 1hr to bake. I've bought some red colouring today, so will attempt to make one or two a post box.
The chocolate sticks were more love heart chocolates, just made deeper with more chocolate. I used BBQ wooden kebab skewers from Sainsbury's, cut about 5" off the top, and soaked the tip in boiling water for about a minute, then pushed it into the top of the set chocolate heart (one end of the skewer is pointed, which makes it easier to do).
The love hearts were silicon moulds I bought cheap in Sainsbury's back in October.... I think I posted about them earlier on this thread, but that's very many posts back now.
Here's a pic of the chocolate in the moulds, to give you an idea of how deep they are compared to the smaller ones covered with pistachios. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

I'm joining this thread suuuuper late but have gotten so many good ideas! I'm crazy broke this year but am excited about making gifts
Looking up info about making soaps, though, everything seems to suggest making them a month or so in advance. Is it too late to make soap now?
I want to have a go at making jam, and maybe fudge. And hopefully soap. And I have an idea to try and make personalised calendars for my dad and/or brother using my own photos.0 -
