You can save quite an amount of effort by using the AltGr key (to the right of the spacebar) together with the 4 key to get €.
AltGr is the exact equivalent of Ctrl+Alt. :T0 -

No - I don't have a numeric pad at all. If it's of any interest to anyone, I have a Dell inspiron 1545.Do you not have numbers on the lower part of the keys to the right of the centre of your keyboard, probably printed in blue, which you access by holding down the Fn key and pressing whatever letter key the number is printed on??
