Absolutely appalling service Shysarah! What sort of butcher is he? OH regularly gets the odd hock from ours and as you say it's cheap and tasty. He can even persuade me to have a bit of it once he's removed every last bit of fat and skin! (We even refer to ourselves as Mr & Mrs Jack Spratt sometimes! :o :rotfl:)

Can anyone help me with this? I can get them no bother but when I tried to cook them I HATED them! They were so salty and usually I love ham, gammon etc. If anyone tell me a good way of using them, I will start to incorporate them into my meal plans!

    Thank you!

Back from Mr T £19.77 lighter although did get coffee and sugar so that will last a while. I'm sure someone mentioned it here so thanks to OP as checked cost of cheese against the pre grated and pre grated was cheaper!
Hoping not to spend any more as firiend's birthday next weekend so having meal out then.

yes thanks to the OP i also bought grated cheese this week as it was cheaper than the block

NSD ( for food ) today and will be tomorrow too as i am not going out for anyone ;)
  • Hi All,
I'm really not very good at this! Now in damage limitation mode, £176.21 from a budget of £175..oops. I only bought essentials, except for the 6 rolls of plenty for £3, which was too good to miss, and I will need some next month.

I'm tweaking the menu plan, so that I don't have to buy extra ingredients.

On the plus side, we've been having lots of veggie meals, and smaller portions, and both OH and I have lost weight....so not all bad

Hve a good week everyone x

Well I am still within target - just! Spent £2 in Co Op yesterday & £5 in Farm Foods. Was a bit cross as I had noticed in cupboard that OH's coffee had just about run out so I got him some more only for him to tell me when he got home that he already had another large jar of it sitting in the garage.
Oh & I have just remembered another £1.53 that DD spent today in Sainsburys on some mixed peppers for her pasta salad that she is making at school on Monday so better add that on aswell. I don't think anyone will even eat it either as she hates all pasta and I am not keen on pasta salad. I will try it however. I'm not sure whether it would be better with some sort of tomatoey sauce or just a bit of mayo?

    Roll on pay day!

Still under for the month but going to have to start being a bit more careful now!!
Anyway I did get a fair amount for my money including 1500g of toms (for soup), 4 red peppers (again for soup - it always annoys me the cost of them ), a few sweeties for DS, bread, mushrooms, mint sauce, eggs, mince etc .........oh just realised there were a pair of trainers in there that come from a different budget WOW not nearly as bad as i though :D

Ok so it only cost me £7.78 will go and upkate my sig now :rotfl:

  • Hi everyone - TheBees have been absent from the grocery challenges for several months but would like to rejoin for October.

It's been a very busy summer and the grocery shopping's been getting a bit out of hand lately. Although I've always done a meal plan and shopping list each week, I don't always stick to it and often buy more than we really need.

Anyway see you all over in October.
Mortgage Free in 3 part 2 challenge - pay off £9000
    Sealed Pot Challenge 416 - target £500
  • Thanks once again for the hugs and good wishes - you're all very kind :)

Still feeling a bit fed up, so am restricting my posts as I'm given to wearing my heart on my sleeve, as you've no doubt noticed :o

Big spend of £21.44 today between £idl/Te$co and Icel@nd got £4 cash to last me the rest of the week, and that is £4 from from the following weeks cash envelope. I've also diverted from my menu plan twice in the last fortnight for the first time since I started planning, so two of my rules broken yet again.................though at the moment, as Rhett Butler would say: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" :D

So - total spend so far £201.21. As long as I make sure my A$da delivery this week is no more than £45 including del, I can still do it. Should also clock up some NSDs with only £4 in my purse, that's for sure!

  • I think next month I'm going to have a separate entertainment budget, and put alcohol and takeaways in that instead of the GC, and reduce my target a little.

  • nsd for me yesterday, and a shop the day before for picnic bits, was about £10 but much less than drink and snacks out would have been, and have stowed the remainder in the shed so we don't graze/drink them til we next have a trip out.

I took some cooked lentils out of the freezer yesterday and added them to some broccoli curry for a 'shepherdless' pie for tea, topped with mash and cheese. Only to find that dd, like me, liked the filling straight from the bowl, and when i served tea she scooped off the cheese and mash from the top! (then i eat it - hence my evergrowing waistband!). Next time will just serve the filling without cheese topping then...

i made some cheese scones for the picnic, lush - they are going on the school packed lunch list..
