Bloody Vauxhall!! Camshaft snapped.
Flashing engine light, misfire, pulled over and called the AA. He came out and said it's the coil pack, then took the oil filler cap off and saw the end of the exhaust cam rattling around!!!
I now understand this is quite a common thing on ~50k 05/55 Corsas. This is a huge speed bump in the road of my debt recovery.
It's been towed to the local Vauxhall garage, but they're not there until Tuesday (when I have a day off luckily), what do I need to say to them? I bought the car from a different second hand garage about a year ago, obviously no warranty or anything left. Is there any chance they'll cover some of the costs? What kind of argument should I go in with? There's no way I can afford hundreds of pounds on this car at the moment!!

Was it serviced properly?
And I don't mean "was the service book stamped", I mean "did they actually service it?"

Sadly it's common.
Have a read of

as above very common problem on the twinport 1.2 and 1.4 engines around 2005 vintage, the cause is thought to be started by incorrectly torqued camshaft cap bolts working loose over time.
i doubt vaux will do anything on car that age as i do not think they officially acknowledged it is an issue.
if money is tight then look at getting it done at an independant garage rather than vaux as it will be cheaper,i have heard of this problem a few times from friends/family who experienced it and luckily no valve or piston damage so that may be case for you aswell?0 -
From the link posted by Strider
He said: "Vauxhall are trying to claim that the damage was caused because there was not enough oil in the car but this is definitely not the case as it went through an MOT two weeks beforehand and the oil was fine then."
Since when is the oil checked on the MOT :rotfl:0 -

I wonder how many people out there think an MOT is a service or guarantees the running order of the car, lol.
Too many..... Maybe 85% of the population?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
