Tesco misprice discussion area part 10

    As I said earlier, it's very hard for Tesco to get out of the console/games promotion, as it is part of the agreement made between Tesco Buyers and the Suppliers. Brain Training was on offer for two weeks, along with a dedicated FSDU, due to Tesco Buyers getting a big discount on the game if they pushed it in their stores in exactly that way. If Tesco pulls the plug on the promotion, some of the terms of the contract with the suppliers will be broken. The sole aim of the Buyers is to get the best price possible from the suppliers, including negotiating shelf space, promotional displays, FSDUs, etc. Every store has planograms for every inch of shelf space. Suppliers send in merchandisers to check on compliance every now and then, too. It's a lot more complicated than you think. The solution to this problem isn't withdrawing the promotion. The answer is sort the sodding POS and tills out. Stores which don't put up the POS (Constantine, this applies to your store... ;) ) are already failing to comply with the agreement made between the Buyers and Suppliers. If the suppliers compliance check those stores, they will be reported to HO and get into trouble for it.

    Tesco has become too big for its own boots. It cannot handle the constant changes in promotions.

    The carrier bags say "We check 10,000 prices in other stores so that you don't have to". I think they should spend more money and time checking the prices in their own stores.


    Post of the evening for me :beer: Maybe yet ANOTHER stick to beat the stores with? EVERY store I have been in this week (plenty!) have had no mention whatsoever of ANY special console promotion. In fact, one store has even turned ALL the game chart posters round on their stands, thereby revealing the plain back! :rotfl: I can feel a phone call coming on tomorrow.

    There's more...Tesco is up !!!! creek without a paddle with this one. If the stores leave the POS up, they risk getting some hefty fines from TS. If they take them down, they risk breaching terms of the contract made between Tesco PLC and the various suppliers. The only solution for Tesco is to sort out the POS and the tills. They don't have time to test run the various promotions, as there are far too many running at any one time. They could also pay their store staff more money and treat them with more respect in order to motivate them more. That way, they might actually start doing the job they've been paid to do. You would not believe how unmotivated most Tesco store staff are. Most of them hate this situation more than any customer could. Prices change so often, there just aren't enough staff to deal with the constant changes. Add to that the fact that all staff nowadays are trained to be multi-skilled. If the checkouts get busy, the call is put out for all multi-skilled staff to go help out on the tills. This means they have to stop what they are doing. Half the time, what they were doing doesn't get finished.

    The management system is beyond belief. There are so many managers per store, it's ridiculous. None of them seem to know what is going on and the bureaucracy has to be seen to be believed. Communication is not Tesco's strong point. Then we have "Options" - Tesco's very own fast track promotion scheme. That's completely useless in some stores, as many people on Options get there not through talent or ability, but due to who they know. Really, unless you spend time working with these people, you'll never see what really goes on behind the scenes. If you think what you see as a customer is bad, you really need to just how bad it is for the staff.
    In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

    Any manager that falls foul of a late promo pull is going to get the sh*t kicked out of them by HO, so if you spot out of date or even present pos I suspect your on to a surefire winner.

    I think the problem is that a lot of managers reach that level without needing to demonstrate the intellectual rigour that is necessary in other companies/industries. They seem to attain the position by default rather than merit.

    The difference between the local managers and the HO staff is very clear on a simple intellectual level, most of the store managers seem to have minimal skills in communicating with people and far too much attitude.

  • Has anyone tried for a second game trhough CS in Dundee. I've got the Xbox but want a PSP. I've seen them about, but don't have the guts to go to HO again.............although Joanne Leith was lovely on the phone.

  • Today found a small yellow pos with the "save £20 buy a 360 with gotw..."

    No chart posters etc and gotw was incorrect in store:rolleyes:

    Very rude and abusive manager who tried his best to intimidate :o

    Quick phone call to HO and hopefully all is well ;)

    DON'T LET THEM INTIMIDATE YOU !!
