Can I add my wooden ironing board, 40+ yrs old...heavy and constantly traps my fingers. Belonged to my mum so I keep it for sentimental reasons really....

I hope my Le Creuset last that long. Mine are 8 years old (bought in 1997) & I still think of them as my "new pans". I think my Mum has been through 3 cheap sets in that time.

My mother has been using her flame-coloured cast iron Le Creuset set since she bought them with her wedding present money in '78. I grew up thinking that all pans weighed as much as I did and would crack the kitchen tiles if dropped...

I hope very much to have a blue Le Creuset set one day, but since I've sworn never to marry my partner, I may have to find another way of getting hold of them ;) Curses.

    Fantastic thread.

I'm about to replace a Zanussi washing machine which is 15 years old!!! (I even have the receipt somewhere). I've never met anyone whose machine has lasted anywhere near that. It's been brilliant, but in the last few weeks has taken to getting itself stuck on the wash cycle indefinitely, and it has begun not to spin as well as it used to either. It really was fine until a few weeks ago.

I have ordered another Zanussi, but don't hold out much hope for it lasting nearly as long.

I have a hand-me-down 1953 Wee Baby Belling enamel cooker that we use on a daily basis. It is very small (biggest pan that fits in is 8" x 8", and has one solid plate for saucepans) but cooks really well, and as we currently don't have a proper cooker I am so greatful to have it!

I also have an early 1950's Kenwood Chef that I use all the time, it is much quieter and more powerful than the newer ones.

Both have been saftey checked, serviced and had the cord replaced by our local electric shop. The repair man was so impressed with my Kenwood mixer- he said it had a stronger and better built motor and gears than many cars he had seen!!!

I also have a 1980's Vax that is brilliant, and a 1975 slow-cooker. I always look for hand me down or second-hand appliances before thinking about buying new as they were made in an age before the whole disposable way of thinking came about, and can usually be repaired cheaply if needed!

My car is an old Volvo as well, lovely, comfy and dependable, nothing ever goes wrong!!

ps my dh calls me the youngest Old Age Pensioner he knows, mainly because I refuse to throw away or replace something if it does the job! Plus he caught me looking longingly at a shopping trolley. :')

My freezer which is over 20 years old and is missing it's handle. It did have a fit on me last year when we slid it across the conservatory floor to plaster behind it but after DH fiddling about in the back for 10 minutes it coughed back into life and has been going strong ever since (touch wood)

Have a great 23 year old Truvox Vee 6 vacuum cleaner, motor is brilliant, but alas the hose has finally perished and I can't get a hose ANYWHERE for it. Truvox didn't even reply to my email. What a shame as it probably has many years left in it!

My oldest appliance would be from 1983 - some old kitchen scales from the market, still work and accurate. Not very big but does the job.

I have inherited my current washing machine included in this house which is from 1982. A bit leaky but does the job and spin dries very well - fingers x'd it doesn't break now!

I still have a microwave and TV from 1986.

My husband bought a Fergusson Movie Star TV in 1979 and it still works! and he has his Leek speakers from 1975

If you post a picture of the hose I may be able to help as I have a collection of hoses ( I'm an old horder ) measure inside and outside diameter at each end and make sure thends are visible so I can see what sort of fittings are needed !
