You seem to have my problem, I am no good at visualising what it will look like finished and I usually use my sister to help me as she has great taste, visualisation and knows how to put things together.
A couple of years ago she was out of the country for three months and I was re-doing both the bathroom and kitchen. Without her here I had to make decisions for myself, I chose stark white and royal blue tiles for the bathroom with beech units and royal blue flooring with blue and white accessories and stark white units and walls, matt silver oven and door furniture with black granite work surfaces and a metal look floor with red accessories for the kitchen.
She got back and LOVED it so have confidence in your own judgement:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
More MSE to have a neutral colour on the walls and change the accessories? Ultimately though, go with what you like. Good quality paint is a good investment, though, have tried value paint and it was like painting with milk. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0

I love that room pictured
but is it just me that looks at interior design and goes 'oh ginger mogs hair will show up like mad on that white duvet!' and ditto on the flooring. Oh and 'oh hates cushions...' sigh.....Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -

I like this look...and it's pure white. I'm just not sure if I like it because there's so much wood offsetting the white though. Not sure if I'd still like it with 4 white walls and a carpet. :rotfl:
Do other people do this too....or are you all able to 'just' go buy something and be happy with it?:D
Are you kiddingI once painted my bedroom walls three different shades of 'cream' in two weeks before I was satisfied with the colour !
I don't like white walls and some of the cream colours can look a bit yellowy.
Bedroom is now Dulux very pale chestnut summat or otherand I have turquoise or lime green or burgundy bits and pieces with cream duvet covers which all 'go' with the pale chestnut.

I love white walls :-) We have lots of photos or postcards that we've picked up on our travels and had them framed nicely to stop it looking too plain.
Maybe you could have one feature type wall painted a different colour, warmer toned doesn't have to mean dark, or accessorise in bright colours. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -

Just thought I'd chuck in my two cents worth....
I always think that black and white are "non colours".
I also feel that if you want to paint with such a strong feature wall colour,(ex-spendaholic) the white walls may look unfinished? But then again my house looks like it crashed with a rainbow, I love colour, and after all its only paint, if you hate it paint over it.
Not sure Ive been any help"If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.":DMiss Mona, The Best Little *****house in Texas0 -
Well after living in loads of houses and flats and having probably every colour under the sun we finally have in this house..white!! our house when we bought it was a new build and typically magnolia and the thought of painting it put me off changing it as lots of walls but i did the bathroom literally a few weeks after we moved in as it has no window and just looked yellowy..it immediatly looked so much better so we have gradually redone the whole house. I asked on here r.e white and was told it would look cold etc but tbh we tried a 'cotton' in the kitchen from B&Q which was an off white and the difference is minimal and i think for the money and the fact that the cotton will prob be discontinued we are better doing it all white! Our floors are all oak or cream carpet and we have a good mix of colours of furniture in each room to make it not too harsh. Dd's room has a aubergine feature wall and ours a teal so looks nice i think.0
