Old Style Daily Thread 28th August 2010

Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for 28th August 2010. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier![*]As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.[*]When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.[*]Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just fine.
Good Morning.
Hope I have started the thread correctly today and that this finds you all in good spirits x
I have been up for a couple of hours but generally sleeping a little better although Im still what I would call overactive and driving my family mad. Never mind because it makes OS very easy to achieve!
We had to go and collect my poor DD from Reading festival as she was really poorly and upset. The conditions there are truly atrocious with all the mud and everything else mixed into it!! Her so called friend left her to fend for herself (went off with a lad), her tent got trashed and she got absolutely drenched with the rain and so did all her dry clothes despite planning it for months. She was effectively by herself and the lads in the next tent were dealing drugs all night. Luckily she managed to phone home and her dad and I went to pick her up in the middle of the night and she was in a dreadful state almost hypothermic I would say! She might go for the day on Sunday. Its really sad for her as her ticket was her 18th birthday present but I have told her not to worry and I will treat her to something else. She has to put it down to experience but she was gutted as she was really looking forward to it all year as her brother has been three years running. She was very thoughtful about it and said in a very small way she understood how the poor people in Pakistan felt and that she absolutely loved her home and bed and was very grateful for all she had.
Today im off to MK to get my DS2 some new trainers and then my monthly stock up at Costc0. Im getting ready for our holiday next week. Otherwise its the usual stuff.
Have a lovely weekendx

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning Molly & everyone else to follow.
Oh your poor DD. I have done Reading & Glastonbury quite a few times. I have to say, have never done it when it's been wet & wuddy though. Luckily.
Baby was awake at 5am. Always wonderful on a Saturday morning. He is now playing with noisy toys...
Today I need to get my eyebrows threaded. Not so OS, but I have eyebrows like Dennis Healy & can't manage them myself!!!
DW to go on after breakfast. WM will go on when the others are up so I can get the washing without disturbing them. Hopefully it'll stay dry so it can dry outdoors rather than on the airer.
DH will fix the living room door handle today. It need a new inside bit. Thought DS1 was messing around the other night when he was pulling down the handle & said he couldn't get in the room. For once he wasn't messing.
The shower also blew the other day so DH will look at that. Have an electrician booked for Weds though just in case.
Have done a meal plan till next Fri so am very pleased with myself!
Might get some baking in at some point over the weekend as well.
Right, more coffee calls!
(((hugs))) to all those in need.
Have a good day all

(((hugs))) to all that need

Good morning :-)
Molly41 - sorry to hear about your DDs festival experience - hopefully it won't put her off from going again - festivals are one of the best places to be - I have been to 11 myself! (will be going to my 12th next month!) but you do have to be very careful.
I'm off to work soon :-( only took one call in 3 hours last night, and it was a wrong number! It'll probably be the same today I would think. Still, I managed to get loads of crocheting done!
After today's shift, I'm not back at work until Wednesday which is great :-)
My boyfriend's granny gave me some HG apples last night, so I'm going foraging tomorrow and will make a blackberry and apple pie on tuesday :-)
Have a nasty headache this morning, so off to take some paracetamol :-(
Have a good day everyone!
Louisa xthe only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Morning.
Nice to see you posting Molly - start of the thread was fine by me!
Been awake since 5.30am when DS decided to start the day. Cue lots of coffee for me since I went to bed late too.
Cold this morning, definately an autumnal feel to the air
Plans for today, housework, washing and baking. Lawn needs cutting too when dew has dried out a bit. Might drag the kids blackberrying
Not much else going on - how exciting is my life LOL!
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Morning all
I have the DGC here, they are both still asleep at the moment. DD dropped them off yesterday about 7ish, I gave them tea, fish fingers & sgetty hoops followed by strawberries & petit filou, bathed them & put them to bed, they both went straight to bed & to sleep as they'd been to Reading Festival & spent the day dancing. DS phoned at 11 last night thinking I was at DD's with the children & offering to take over, which was very kind of him. But I was already asleep, lol, he was very apologetic.
No real plans for today apart from keeping DGC amused til DD collects them, we'll probably go & feed the ducks, that way they will out of hubby's hair, he loves them dearly, but has had a hectic week & is worn out, still it is a long weekend so he'll still have 2 days of R & R.
After they have gone I'll do the housework & get ready for next week when hubby & I are both back at work.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Coffee on for the start of another day. Gorgeous out of the window here this morning. Off to Asda Hypermarket to stock up for September - I am so not ready for the onslaught of the morning rush to begin again!! Have loads of little (and not so little!) jobs that need doing inside and out, so will spend a fair bit of this bank holiday weekend doing them. Only one week left of school holidays - so a week to get the children back into routines.
Have a great BH weekend everyone - hope the weather holds.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Molly - your poor daughter. I hope she's feeling better now. I remember having to collect my DS2 from a festival a few years ago - he had had his mobile phone stolen along with his car keys and other things, so it caused a lot of expense and aggro. Mind you, he said the festival itself was brilliant!
It started off a bit overcast this morning but seems to be brightening up now - I hope so, I have a load of washing to get dry and I refuse to use the TD in the middle of summer!
Dinner tonight will be something from the freezer which I'm running down before we go away the week after next. This area of France is prone to power cuts and I don't want to risk things defrosting then refreezing while we're away. It's a bit of a nuisance but better than getting food poisoning! I shall use up all the meat in the freezer then do a big shop when we come back. I suppose it's not a bad thing - it makes me turn the freezer out and use stuff that's been lurking for ages.
Glitterkitty - it's great that you can take your crochet to work; at least the time's not wasted!
Well, I'd better get a move on if I'm to hit the supermarket this morning.
Hope you all have a great day.

Molly - your poor DD. I too am a seasoned festival goer (though not been to any this year!). reading looks truely awful this year with the mud. at least your DD is sensible enough to ring you and ask for help.
It is gloriously sunny here :j fingers crossed it lasts for the weekend. I'm going to read on the balcony for few hours, then meet girls for lunch and shopping. I have no actual plans for this bank holiday weekend - very unusual for me! - so it's going to be quite nice to see how things meander along. I need to go to library too, and get some eggs do may go to Morrisons later.
Have a fab day all

Thanks to Molly41 for today's thread. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's experience at Reading

Hope the paracetamol helps your sore head, glitterkitty.
Had a lovely long lie this morning and am planning to take today as my 'day of rest' and spend most of it in my PJs! The DW will go on after breakfast, I'll deal with the litter tray and put a casserole into the SC. I've to go out to a pet sitting job late in the afternoon and will get the TV paper when I do that. Other than that it's reading and knitting and pottering about online for me.
Looks like another lovely day in Glasgow
