their exact words are "Up to £2,750 interest free overdraft in your first year", yet has any first year student ever received this amount??? NO, so it IS false advertising!

its like going for a job and them saying, earn upto £20 per hour!! then finding out you are really only getting £4 per hour, when the other jobs are paying £5-6, its a scam!

i discussed this with my Mum the other day, and the first thing she said was that they can't do that and that i should get them reported for it, even if the smallprint says otherwise, it is very sneaky, and how the hell can they assess your financial cirucmstances based on loans, which must be repaid as well! its like the more money you are borrowing, the more overdraft they will give you, it dosen't make any sense!

    who would one complain to?

    what? where? when? how?

and if so, why is virtually everyone else in this thread (and their friends) not being given the full amount?

No idea - out of my friends who moved after I forwarded them Martin's MSE email that mentioned it all got the full amount (not first years though) - all said they got the full OD.

Freshers have thanked me for telling them about the Halifax OD (I do some student union-y stuff), saying that they had been offered the full OD...

Did they get the full amount once they had paid their loans/wage in or did they get the full amount as soon as they applied?

    Thanks

  • i applied and they first only gave me 500, then upped it to 1000. In my opinion thats a load of !!!!!!!! the only reason i signed up was for the full overdraft. otherwise i may as well cash in on the freebies from other banks that offer a 1500 overdraught as standard. I properly annoyed with halifax about this one its false advertising and they should be reported to trading standards

Only HSBC offer a guarenteed overdraft level (£1000). You could find yourself being offered under the max/nothing at any other the other HSBs...

I have decided to take a risk and apply for the account.... If say after a few months when I have put both my loans and wages in and the overdraft does not increase to full amount then I will close the account! I will just keep pumping money in and see if they will allow me to increase the OD!
