    Hi

I am sure i read somewhere on the site that under new euro legislation that all household goods come with a 2 year gaurantee. Can anyone point me to this?

It is an EU directive, but has not yet been incorpoerated into English (Scots etc) law. Until it is, it has no effect and you cannot rely on it.

Also (after getting my brain into gear), the Limitation Act 1980 allows 6 years for a claim to made against defective products. The directive you are referring to, for the rest of europe, is their equivalent -it refers to their statutory rights. It does not mean tha a manufacturers guarantee has to be a minimum of two years. It is basically the same effect as the Limitation Act.

You are therefore better protected in this regard in Ewngland and Wales than you would have in the rest of europe.

    Another update

I got fed up in the end of the constant hoover noise coming from the xbox and then i had a freeze that was enough for me to pack it up and take it back.

I now have a new xbox with 12 month warranty a lot quieter and a lot happier. I'm now waiting from microsoft to contact me saying there was nothing wrong with my old machine but i probably won't be able to hear them if they have it running in the background.

Good luck to everyone else with the original ones.

That is a shame, as you had a very good case for getting a replacement. It is that attitude that a lot of sellers rely on to continually flout the law with impunity. But I admit, I don't blame you.
