Help Xbox 360

Options
I don't know if you know about the number of xbox 360 machines that are failing within the first 12 months of release. Some reports suggest the level currently stands at 35%.

All machines come with a 12 month warranty but what are the rights of the consumer if these machines fail after the 12 months if there has been this level of failure.

I would of thought if this was a car and 35% of them had a major failure there would be a product recall.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I know that if they go wrong before the 12months then you can exchange it.

What about the ones that go wrong after this date, as I have a vested interest as i currently own a system that is running fine at the moment but was brought on the day of release.

Thank you for your help

thats a little shocking.looks like argos may be best place to buy then and pick up an extended warranty at same time.

Ours failed last month and the customer service we received from Microsoftwas excellent. The sent a courier to collect the unit, refurbished it and returned it three days later.

Although ours was within the 12 months, they will still do this outside of the 12 month guarantee as it is an ongoing problem for them.

I can't praise them highly enough
  • Should you have to buy and extened warranty if the failure rate is that high.

Yet more money to mr gates for not making a suitable machine to cope with next generation games.

In the U.S. they were charging 130 dollars for the repairs due to the fact they only had 3month warranty so i look forward to the 3rd decmber when the warranty ends and see if they are as helpful then.

thanks for the words of hope though when mine goes wrong. The lad i went with to buy one at the same time, his went wrong last night and my other mate his went wrong last sunday and they say things come in 3's

Sounds like some websites trying to dig at Microsoft.

Microsoft's 1st initial batch had problems in the US.

Thats recent news. Dunno about the UK
  • 35%? rubbish.

There would be absolutely astounding levels of consumer backlash if that was true and the consoles would be withdrawn. I sense chinese whispers combined with fanboyism.

Everybody I personally know with them (6 people I believe) have had no issues.

I agree. Plus, if I was lucky enough to afford an XBox 360, I'd be far too busy playing on it to worry about posting on a forum about it going wrong in the future.

That said, it would be interesting to hear how the OP's mates get along following the faults that have appeared on their machines. What is the manufacturer response? How efficient are they at dealing with the problems? Are the problems resolved to the satisfaction of the consumers?

i know 3 people now that have had to take theirs go bang and i know 6 people with 360's including myself so 3 out of 6 isn't that 50% all brought on release.

I am not a fanboy of sony or microsoft all i want is a reliable machine. I have now played both the dodgy games and as of now i have had no problems with my machine maybe i am just lucky or maybe its going to bite me in the face in 6months time.

One thing i have learnt to not buy on release this is where it seems to have gone wrong why would microsoft themselves be offering extended warranty's on 360's brought prior to jan 1st in america.

Reading forums there is a rumoured recall at 5% but its how you manipulate the 5% figure ie. 5% of all xbox's on launch date- or 5% of all manufactured xbox's.

I know 7 people with 360's, none of them fail, going a similar way to what you are saying, that is a 0% failure rate...

My son's machine failed after 3 months and the manufacturers were quite happy to repair as the guy I spoke to on the phone said they were aware they had some problems so anticipated a lot of follow up repairs.
