Santander application - Have I been accepted?

Firstly (please don't shoot me I know they have poor customer service) but I have just applied for a Santander Current Account via cashback site £35 plus £100 switch. I currently only have a basic account.

Anyway at the end of the application I got this message:

Thank you for choosing to bank with Santander.

Please record this reference number as we will use it in all future contact with you.

Reference Number : **********

Date : 26-Aug-2010

Time : 17:12

Within the next few days, we will send you an email containing this reference number, detailing the next steps in the process.

Once your account is opened you will receive your card, pin and e-banking credentials through the post to the address you have provided in this application.

Does this mean I have been accepted or have they not done the credit check yet?

They will tell you on that email your are to receive within the next few days. They may say yes, no, or they may as for more details (ID, etc.).

Oh ok thanks so they probably haven't done the credit check yet then. I just get used to automatic checks these days don't like waiting. :(

Although after re-reading through the complaints on here though I'm not too bothered if they say no now :rotfl:

My experience is with a business account, but I believe they do very much the same for personal accounts.

In my case I failed ID and the email asked for photocopies of documents, then a few days later I saw they credit checked me and again a few days later I received a letter with my internet banking ID. By now I can't complain as they have been speedy and have had no issues with them. However there are a lot of people who have serious complaints.

Hi there, I applied for the same account and got the acceptance email about a day after.
However, this week I applied for a second account to help with budgeting, which meant going through the same application process as you would have done and although I got the thank you for applying email, we will advise you of the outcome etc etc I didnt get the acceptance email this time round but noticed on the online banking that they have opened the account so I think sometimes they operate in different ways.

Also, if you get an acceptance email, you do have to print out and return the cheque book request attachment

That is the nice part of my account opening process. I didn't receive such email, so my account is opened, I have received the internet access codes and debit card and PIN are on their way, but don't know how to request a cheque book... I guess I'll ring them in a week or so after I have received card and all paperwork, will give them a few more days just in case they are sending the cheque book request form by post.

Well its the 2nd day and I haven't yet heard anything but guess its still early :p I don't remember it asking if I wanted a cheque book. It did ask if I wanted an overdraft (but didn't say how much for).

What information does the email contain and did you need to send in ID?

It doesnt ask you about the cheque book when you apply as this is automatically included on that account but you do have to request one.

I think all I had to do was send my signature in on a form they sent to me but no ID

If you do get accepted, you may end up having to chase for the £100 cashback. I am still waiting for mine and have been told that I may not fit their criteria - on checking, I DO fit their criteria but still no cashback. They won't speak to me on the phone about it and I have been told that they will write; that was 2 weeks ago and still nothing. I am now thinking of switching to someone else. Santander seem to be having major problems and not able to cope with the volume of new customers they are getting. Stay clear if it's not too late.

Definitely doubting if I have done the right thing now. :( I signed up to the switching service too.

I signed up via £35 Quidco deal and that transactions not yet showing either. Guess this is just gonna be a waiting game until I get the email.... Keep asking myself What The Hell was I thinking of yesterday? :( :rotfl:

Aint that the truth! Their staff seem to make it up as they go along (Either that or some of them deliberately give mis-information to get you off the phone....)
