Rights over faulty bridesmaid dress

tbh I find wearing boned dresses uncomfortable so it could be argued that the discomfort was a personal thing and not due to the dress at all being faulty.
Also if she put it on at 1.30pm and took it off at 10pm then that's 8 1/2 hrs wear - I would DEFINITELY have found it uncomfortable after such a length of time
I do think you're having a laugh at expecting a full refund, especially after the dress has been worn for such a length of time - not to mention altered for your daughter (I would imagine that altering it at the bust would have some effect on the way the boning sat) - and in any case you do have to ask yourself would your daughter wear the dress again even if these problems hadn't arisen? If you were so concerned about the cost per wear aspect it may have been more MSE to have hired a dress rather than buy one2014 Target;

I really can't see why we are having all this pointless bleating about how long she wore it! It was expensive, it was bought for the wedding day and it fell apart at the boning bit part way through the day. Come on now, this was a VERY important occasion and I can completely understand how the OP, and her daughter, were very upset about this. The poor workmanship had a big impact on the occasion and the store has to take responsibility for that - AND make it right with the customer. They can't change what happened but they can give a refund. Maybe it can reasonably be argued that she got SOME use out of it and therefore only a part refund (say 2/3rds) is appropriate - but then they should cough up the balance as recompense for spoiling a very important occasion. And that brings the total up to a full refund.
In the OP's situation, I would probably accept just a 2/3 rds refund, and forget the balance though.ELITE 5:2

I just have a couple of comments.
Why would a 12 year old need bones in a dress.
and if the material breached, why didnt you just take the bones out.
Wouldnt the alteration have moved the bones to a diffeent position.
Because the dress had boning in it?
My daughter will be my bridesmaid in 5 weeks, and her dress is boned.

I'm sorry but people really do need to put this into context.
Yes I would have been miffed if I had been the OP but I'm guessing that the dress was OK for the formal pics and that the pics the OP refers to are basically snaps taken by friends & family and as such I'm sure your daughter will get over her disappointment.....obviously in time she'll learn that sometimes you have to make the best out of a bad situation and that this was just one of those situations.
To me the length of time worn is important - if I bought an expensive dress and as I put it on, the boning came through then yes I would expect a refund but if I had worn it for nearly 9 hours then I would expect it to be repaired.
Sorry OP, it does come across like you've seen an opportunity to recover the costs of a dress that is hardly likely to be worn again, using the boning coming out as an excuse.2014 Target;

Why on earth should she have to 'get over it'? The store failed to provide a dress of reasonable quality and its the store that have to 'get over ' the problem, not the Op and her daughter. Mending something like this AFTER the event it was bought for is inappropriate.ELITE 5:2

But it was WORN for the event .....the wedding! Yes you can argue it would have been 'nice' if the dress could have been worn until the daughter went to bed but its not uncommon for bridesmaids / best men / ushers / whoever to change for the evening do. As they did at a wedding I went to last week.
The OP stated in her first post that she was happy to have the dress repaired, especially as she didn't want to come across as 'the dress has been worn, I've no further use for it and here's an opportunity to get my money back' so what has changed?2014 Target;

I don't think you get it. The wedding is an all day event. It may have lasted for the ceremony but didn't for the whole day.
Just because some people did at a wedding you went to last week doesn't mean to say that the bridesmaid in this case was happy wearing a tracksuit. Or that the bride and groom were happy either.
If the item is faulty, it can be rejected and a refund sought.0 -

Nothing has changed - I wanted to know if I was right in accepting the repair & clean or LEGALLY could I have demanded a refund.
Yes we've had the day now & it won't be worn again however I could recoup the costs by selling it anyway but if I am within my rights to demand a refund why shouldn't I?0 -
