I'm sorry but why are we asking for proof that it didn't last - the OP said it didn't and, in the abcence of evidence to show that she is a devious, lying scammer, I am inclined to take her word for it!
I can tell you that, if it had happened to me I would be absolutely spitttng with anger! The dress wasn't cheap and clearly should have been robust enough to last far longer. It came apart within hours and isn't fit for purpose - and the fact that the child was forced to take it off and couldn't wear her finery throughout her mothers wedding reception would just add weight to my complaint! The shoddy workmanship took the edge off the child (and her mothers) enjoyment. I would want a full refund - Ok the child did get some wear out of it but that is cancelled out by the distress of having to take it off and wear a track suit for the rest of the evening. It is NOT good enough to fob the OP off with a reapair - far too little, much too late.ELITE 5:2

I couldn't agree more.
This forum isn't a court so "proof" shouldn't come into it. OP asked for his/her rights. It is assumed that the evidential burden put on a claimant can be discharged.
Imagine if on every single post we asked for the proof?0 -
I just have a couple of comments.
Why would a 12 year old need bones in a dress.
and if the material breached, why didnt you just take the bones out.
Wouldnt the alteration have moved the bones to a diffeent position.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Clearly she isn't going to wear the dress again so a full refund would have been much preferable than a fix & clean however at the time I excepted this as I didn't really know if I could insist on a refund & I didn't want to look like 'we've had the use out of it now so give me the money back'.
Was I right in accepting this, would others have done the same or have I been too soft. If so could I go back & tell them it's unacceptable - the shop have had the dress for 2 weeks now.
Many thanks
I bashed out a much longer reply to this but then after re-reading I deleted it. If you accepted the offer to repair and clean the dress I would say thats that..especially after two weeks have passed and it's quite probable the repair etc has been done. But give them a phone and if it's not been repaired, you could try for a refund. But they very possibly will refuse in which case you've got to ask yourself...worth the aggro of small claims court, or put it behind you and move on?Val.0 -
How long before wedding day was dress altered?
Could your 12 yr old daughter have had a spurt of growth in the interval between collecting the dress and wearing it on the wedding day?0 -
Aaagh sorry, can now see on re reading post that it was 2 - 3 months.0

Where is the proof of that?
Gorikin you clearly don't work in customer service - I find your reply offensive I'm not a lier and as other people have said there were 200 witnesses at the reception plus photographic evidence showing her in her tracksuit - so I'd say that was fairly substatial evidence.
But a question for you - if you'd bought a dress for £150 for a special occasion and after wearing it for 7 hours and the stitching came apart so much that you had to change out of it - would you return it to the shop for a refund?
This was a bridesmaid dress that I ordered over 4 months before the wedding my 12 year old daughter didn't get to wear it for the whole day - she felt awful walking round in a tracksuit whilst everyone else was dressed for the occasion & is upset that most of the pics in the evening show her in a tracksuit - on her mothers wedding day!!!
So Gordikin would you like some more proof?0 -

We chose the dress 12 months before the wedding - we didn't actually order it until 4 months before, just incase she had a growth spurt - the dress was actually altered 2 weeks before the wedding, so I don't think she grew that much x0
