Why do Vailant only offer 1 year warranty on certain models and 2 years on others.
Doesn't sound like they are confident in their products does it?0 -
OK
Viessmann or the Remeha
1. what are the prices of the spares like in comparison to Bosch and valliant?
1a... how hard are the spares to get hold of if youre not a plumber?
2.barring the gas bit .how DIY fixable are they?
3. Do they have more expensive and harder to diagnose electronics in them compared to Bosch and valliant....that may eventually write them off, because you'd have to employ an electrician and a plumber to fix them?
That's what matters to me ....
I hate all things complicated that are not diy-able........cause what ever Little money they save because of efficiency ..........you will spend twice, thrice or even ten times as much paying someone to fix them .that's looking at it from my point of view and not a gas safe plumbers.

Canucklehead wrote: »Good afternoon: a boiler is only as good as its installation and annual servicing...that being said, I would avoid the 3 models mentioned in your post and recommend, as value for money options, the Remeha Avanta or the Viessmann Vitodens 100 (both available with 5 year parts and labour warranty). Cost of the installation will be dependent on your location in the UK, site conditions and the standard of the specification.

For a lively discussion on the questions posed by the most recent posters on this thread try the P&H forum on DIYnot...but be warned, they don't suffer fools/google gleaners.;)
Good luck.

Many RGIs answer queries on DIYnot. Too many folks post info solely based on google....and that is 'google gleaners' nor cleaners....as always, consider the source of the info and heed the warning at the top of this forum i.e. 'please exercise caution'...that applies to all the forums on MSE and any internet forum for that matter.
Tradespersons posting on here have seen too much spurious and sometimes dangerous advice given and will comment when appropriate.
My apologies to the OP of this thread.

The Ecotec pro with the official 1 year warranty and lower spec is aimed at the 'entry level' new build market, ie cheap to try to attract builders. (well that was the reason when they first came out)
One is always better paying the bit extra and going for the Ecotec Plus range.0 -
It is a 3 bed semi with good insulation.
A 3 bed semi with good insulation will probably need less than 10kW to heat it in the depths of winter. You can find out how much by using a Whole House Calculator. There is one on the IDHEE web site - click "boiler size" in the menu on the left. Note that a semi-detached has two walls, side to side, and one wall, front to back. Deduct 2kW from the result to give your heating requirement.
You don't say what your existing combi boiler is but, assuming it gives adequate hot water, your new boiler should not need to be any larger for hot water.
Vaillant 837 and 937 are intended for large houses - their minimum heat output is 12kW, which is probably above your maximum output as given by the calculator. The lower the min output, compared to your max output, the better.
All Remeha boilers have a minimum output of 6kW and the maximum CH output can be adjusted to meet your requirement, so you only need to consider the HW requirement. It comes with a 2 year labour and five years parts warranty However the heat exchangers have a five year parts and labour warranty.
Remeha are fairly new to the UK domestic market but they have been in the commercial market for years and have a very good reputation. In addition they recently bought up the Baxi Group so maintenance can be carried out by Heateam and there should be no worries about parts etc.0
