New boiler - which one? help please :)

Options
Hi,

I hope someone can help us, We are looking at replacing our very old gas combi boiler for new. It will need to run 8 rads over 6 rooms including one towel warmer. It is a 3 bed semi with good insulation. New boiler can be a condencing combi and position is next to the bathroom ( so acess to waste)

We had one gas safe man come last night and said that Baxi platinum 28 would be the best bet but the reveiws online are pretty average for a £1000 worth of boiler. Has anyone got any idea what other boilers in the same pirce range would offer a good service for us?

He has quoted prices for :
Potterton gold 28
Baxi ecotec 28
Baxi platinum 28

Any help, ideas or recomendations would be fab ;)
Thanks everyone!

Hi, I am getting the old style boiler replaced with a new combi in the house we are buying. I had two quotes and both came in at about £1500 for boiler and fitting. The boiler is an Alpha ? Though I know its not one of the big better brand names>

Good afternoon: a boiler is only as good as its installation and annual servicing...that being said, I would avoid the 3 models mentioned in your post and recommend, as value for money options, the Remeha Avanta or the Viessmann Vitodens 100 (both available with 5 year parts and labour warranty). Cost of the installation will be dependent on your location in the UK, site conditions and the standard of the specification.

Get more quotes in from RGIs recommended to you by a source you trust, compare each quote like for like and go from there. More on central heating here.

Let us know how you get on.

The Potterton Gold, the Baxi Platinum and the Baxi Duo tec are exactly the same boiler with a different badge on them and different warranty.

All you are paying more for on the platinum is the extra 3 year warranty.

    Thanks guys :)

Had another quote tonight and this guy has put forward an Ideal logik plus 30kw. Any veiws on these? i understand they are new(ish) but so far my research has only come up with good things. He is also quoting a much more reasonable price for his time and came across as much more "above board" than the 1st guy.

Any more thoughts would be great and thanks to everyone above for taking the time to reply :)

    Hi,

I'm still bitter and twisted after their Isor/Icos and Response models.

Piles of scrap in a white box as as far as I'm concerned

Others (who have not suffered from this) will have a kinder opinion.

I would not want to inflict this brand of boiler on anyone.

I too would not ever fit an Ideal logic if it was given to me free.

The last boiler Ideal ever made that has been reliable was the Classic.

They also don't honour their warranty's, using every trick in the book to get out of it.

I agree with you, although our gas engineer said the new logics are much better.

We had a classic rs 60 central heating boiler and a brittony 2 t water heater. (the later was the one that broke too many times, both around 15 years old)

We were given the choice of ideal logic + (5 years guarantee) and a Vaillant.

In the end we chose a vaillant ecotec pro 28. It's only got 1 year guarantee and only ended up being £100 more expensive. We chose it because of Ideal's reputation and this new Logic having not been out there for long enough.

I had a same dilemma about a year ago. Eventually decided to go for Vaillant 837, very, very happy so far; for your needs I'd go for Vaillant 937. I had it installed properly by the plumber listed on their website for my area. I bought the boiler myself from vhsdirect.co.uk and got three years warranty + that was the cheapest place to buy it at that time, hope this helps, good luck...

Good morning: the Vaillant 937 is an excellent product but it is several hundred pounds more than the Viessmann or the Remeha...the OP is looking for a value for money boiler and I also suspect the 937 would be overspecced for his/her property (original quotes for a 28 kW.;))
