I think it's more common sense than savvy. If you have some idiot in your passenger seat who tells you to turn left and it's a no entry or a railway track or a canal or blocked off by bollards, you ignore them an go somewhere else.
Why does this change when the idiot in the passenger seat with the map is replaced by the idiot stuck to your windscreen with a map?0 -

A correctly positioned satnav screen will be more like an instrument. To look at a map you either need to be looking at the passenger seat, or actually pick the thing up and hold it against the steering wheel.0

I generally occasionally follow the single track routes shown by sat nav just to try going somewhere different for a change. I think the issue is the sat nav thinks you can get up to 60mph along them when in nearly all cases you're lucky to be near half that
