Claire, flavoured vodka would probably be easier to make for this year and maybe aim for next year with the wine.
You can buy the cheap stuff and soak the labels off to gift it.

and you should be able to print labels off of t'internet too, if you look hard enough.

claire, if you use 3/4 bottle of vodka, once the fruit is in you'll get 4 bottles out of 3

You can buy dishcloth yarn and if like me you are sad enough to google dishcloth pattern, you can find all sorts of patterns to incorporate.

Claire - The kit doesn't really give you much and you could get it cheaper if you buy the stuff seperately. Some wines do work out cheaper (if the fruit is free) but other wise the initial outlay for the equipment makes each bottle a bit more pricey for a while.....we've been doing it for years so the equipment has paid for it's self 20 times over.....why not ask on your local freecycle to see if you can get some demijohns and stuff from there?

There's a homebrewing thread over on the OS boards that will give you plenty of pointers too.

I've made wine in the past, but not for donkey's years. Had some lovely hedgerow once and also some plum wine.

Bizarrely I have a demi-john in the boot of the car at the moment.......ex was having a clear out of the loft a while back and asked if I wanted one and it's never got further than in the boot....I might start using it for loose change. That's how Charlie was saved up for :D

That's the ruddy pattern I've been following! (Thanks anyway) I saw it on someones blog and they seem to have had the same problem as me with the "laying flat issues" I've messaged them to see if they can offer me some advice. :D
