  • Is ravi1626 still out there. Hello.
  • Yes sounds like Dry joint somewhere, can't tell without looking at it should be able to repair it in house I wouldn't want to lift that heavy 32 inch out make sure tv is off before engineer comes out so he can see fault. Dry joints on LOPTX or LOPTR people in trade will know what these mean! And static is a snowy picture!!
  • Thanks again ravi1626.
I will have an engineer out this week.
    Will get back with results.
    Watch this space.
  • Hi guys, engineer is coming tomorrow to take my TV away to his workshop.
I thought he might at least have a look at it in my house.
I told him on the phone today all about the TV and asked if it could perhaps be the dry joints.
His reply, Oh no I don't think it will be that.
I will ask him before he takes it away tomorrow morning just what he does think it might be.
    Any advice for me.
  • Engineer came today, did not look at television just decided he knew what the trouble was.
    Condensers line drive circuit.
Needs to order the part, will take two days to arrive.
He will be back Thursday or Friday to take television away to fit the new part. Anyone agree ?

Who bloody uses the word 'condensor' these days :rotfl:

Anyway I am out of current tech don't know what these painters do and all that but personally I don't like this guy's attitude - He has found the fault without turing on or any form of troubleshooting (yes I know there are well doc'd common faults but I think a customer deserves to see the tech double check this!) and then tells you what you need - some capacitors, but he needs to take the telly away to replace these? In my opinion you take back to the work bench to troubleshoot or soak after service not replace the 'definate culprits'!
Hmm, call me cynical but I would expect to here more problems from the workbench!
  • Yeh a classic way of making money from joe public, iam glad i got out of the trade this is the sort of attitude from engineers that gives us all a bad name tell the truth and you will get recommended for the next job!
I could could show a customer a load if components, to convince them that i had repalced a load of components to get few pounds more.
  • I meant to mention, he said if I keep TV on standby the picture would come on quicker.
Itold him I do keep it on standby.
Well it must be really bad then, he said.

What can you do, just so long as he fixes it and does not take an arm and a leg. Just got to pay up and look pleasant.
  • Well guys line drive circuit seems to have solved my television problem.
I now have instant picture again.
Still needs to be fine tuned, he will come back this week to do that for me.
    Thanks for all your help.

Excellent. Cheaper than buying a new TV :D

What does that mean? Hope it's not an excuse to charge extra
