Television turned pink overnight - please help

Hope you can help absolutely gutted about my TV

It is a Goodmans GTV27W3LCD nice and flat screen. Was upstairs in extention decided to bring it downstairs. Hooked it up to SkyDig Box Saturday plus old video all was fine.
Used it Sunday through to Tuesday fine no problem until turning it on Tuesday evening. All the green and some of the white has gone bright Pink but everything else works fine. Unplugged video and that seemed to help for a while until I changed channels and the pink came back.

Spoke to Tesco's helpline who we bought it from and they suggested moving our HIFI speakers away which I have done. Tunred it off for a while like they suggested. Called them back when it didn't work, not interested as TV was bought 21.08.05 exactly 1 month outside warrenty.

I know it is not worth repairing TV's but this one was £500 and we have not used it was out main TV at all. Any advice on what can be wrong? Would it matter that it was not tuned to the SkyDigi box but the SkyPLus box we had it on before.

Absolutely gutted and I wanted to watch the RyderCup which is not pretty in Pink believe me.

have you checked all the scart leads ?? unlpug them one by one and reseat them again..

might be worth swapping them one by one with a spare scart lead to see if it goes

Sounds as if the scart lead from Sky Box to TV is either not plugged in properly or it's damaged.

Also check that you are using the correct Scart lead for the connection as not all Scart leads have the full wiring needed for s Sky Box to TV connection

Finally check that the scart lead is plugged into the correct scart sockets. You won't have more than 4 so it won't take too long to swap cables around

:j Guys you are just the best that worked and I am so so happy :j :j

It was a bit dodgy the scart lead so when we get the Sky+ upgrade I will make sure he checks.

Thanks for the curtain suggestion LOL

  • Maybe you guys could help me.
My Philips TV 5 years old has a great picture, only trouble is the 20 minutes it takes to come on.
Sound is instant. Any ideas what might be wrong.
  • sounds like a problem we had with a telly years ago. It's the tube taking time to warm up .Probably needs replacing.(the tube that is)although no idea if that is cost effective anymore.
  • Ive had this problem too. I think it is something to do with the fact that the 3 electron guns need to stabilise (?) before the picture appears. We had this problem after the main transformer had been replaced.

As far as I know it is an easy fix which doesnt require a new tube.

    Hope this helps.
  • What is the model of your philips tv please? It can be 3 things a capaciator which needs replacing, Dry joint which needs soldering, or the painter chip which no back street shop can repair. I hope this is of some help this is from 15 years in the trade.

I am sick of people who say "tv's can't be repaired these days" or for dead simple faults "you probably need a new tube" Arrrh if you don't actually know what your talking about then just don't bother offering advice!
The OP might have wasted £500 thru dumb comments like that!
