Help Iphone 4 or Samsung Galaxy ?

Help needed.

I have an iphone 4 on hold until 8pm tonight :j as the other half has been on to get one for her work email (NHS hospital)

As we were getting it from Tesco and the stock was like rocking horse poo we have now looked at the Samsung galaxy 16gb also via Mr T which over 12 months works out £170 cheaper (no contest for me).

Does anyone have any valid opinions on which will be the best, both are on a 12month contract and the Samsung is £20p/m and Iphone is £35p/m.

My main thought is the EBook reader and odd texting (drawing of shapes over keyboard) system that will help her as she suffers from arthritis.

All help gratefully received :D

I am a bit biased, as I have only had the Galaxy S.
I went for it because of a number of reasons....the main ones are :

    Cheaper
    Google Navigation free
    Plays many movie file formats
    No reported reception problems
Android Operating system - More open to change of layout of screens as per your preference

There are loads of features packed in that match the Iphone's. I cant think of anything really that the Iphone 4 can do that the Galaxy S cannot.

For you, the swype texting may help - the full version is exclusive to this phone at the moment and this allows you to swish your finger along all the letters and it guesses the word or gives you options for the word it thinks you are spelling - takes a lot of getting used to, but the Guinness world of records for texting was broken using this method.

I have not compared the two, but the book reader on the galaxy is very nice indeed, I would imagine that they are pretty similar in layout.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Avs
Thanks, think we are off to buy the Galaxys S shortly. She has spoken to "the geeks in IT " at work and they all say the Galaxy is the better of the two..... It also works better with the wifi system they use (to keep within the data allowance)

True, but then it's a Samsung.

Skobbler free sat nav is available for the iPhone (and Android 1.6+).

When you buy "tripple play" films, the digital copy will play on your iPhone. Most legal downloads will too. For everything else there's converter progs (clicky).

Android is a great OS and does have the configurability, but it also has the "techie" feel to it that may put users off.

Don't get me wrong; I've recommended Android phones to people on here. I just hate the idea of someone buying their second choice of a phone because it was "available" and "had lots of free stuff" that could be obtained.... well... for free.

  • I have to agree with Oscar, last time my contract was up, i went for the "As good as Iphone" sales plug in shop and was very dissapointed and after 18 months hating the phone , have finnally replaced it with an Iphone 4. My boss on seeing my new Iphone was impressed and went straight to get one, but returned with a Galaxy S, due to price and availability. 2 weeks in and he keeps asking questions of my phone and making comparissons, every time seeming a little more dissapointed with his purchase!

Out of interest where did you find the Samsung Galaxy 16GB for £20/month on a 12 month contract?

I would go for the iphone, but WAIT until they iron out the problems with reception (so wait until the second batch comes out.

Have found it for £20 per month over 24 months but the phone costs £139.99 but you do get £50 cashback.

It's available from Tesco, but you have to pay £250 up front (clicky).

I'd rather pay the extra £99 and get the iPhone (clicky).

You should ask your boss to show you the Swype keyboard feature - then you will be green with envy and he will be far from disappointed with his purchase. I expect it will come to the iPhone sooner or later, but it clearly demonstates that Apple are no longer ahead of the game when it comes to new technological developments and are now playing catch up. Between now and next year when the iPhone 5 comes out there will be at least 2 new generations of Android phones with bigger better everything and still cheaper than the iPhone.
