Virgin Media increasing charges mid-contract

I recently signed-up to an 18 month contract with Virgin Media and now, one month in, they've sent me an email telling me they're putting up their TV charges by £2per month... are they allowed to do this?! It doesn't seem fair that they are able to lock me in for 18 months and then put up the pricing as/when they choose! If their costs have gone up, surely that's the risk they were taking when they offered an 18 month contract?

If their terms and conditions are similar to Sky's (very likely) you will almost certainly find a clause allowing an annual price rise (in Sky's case I am pretty sure this is limited to a max of 10%). I suggest you actually read the terms and conditions of your contract after all you signed and agreed to it when you signed up.0

Good tip Dave
A scan through the T&Cs confirm they can increase charges at any time, but if they do so you can cancel your contract without charge within 30 days of being notified of the increase. 0 -
I think it is just bad timing on your part as my prices haven't changed for ages but I got an e-mail through saying they were increasing. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

And VM customers are about to lose the £1/month discount for having an e-bill. They carp on that they will however be charging £1.25/month for those with a paper bill. I'm sure that will comfort those whose bills will jump a quid... for no good reason....and then the window licker said to me...0

I'm also disgusted that they say they're removing the 'discount'.
The discount is there because it's cheaper to eBill than post, that hasn't changed.
Now they want to increase our bill by £1 and increase paper billers by £1.25, so they earn from both sides!! You would think if they were just removing the discount they shouldn't need to charge paper billers an extra £1.25!
Not happy at the way they went around this at all.
They should have just said it was an increase of £1 for everyone from their current plan price.0 -

Thats interesting about the cancelling if they increase your prices does that mean all of your contract? Who would you have to get in touch with0

it happens. I thought I had a 24 month contract. Assume TC allow them to do this increase of £1.50. Will threaten to leave as per TC when they increase, see if risk of loosing £27.50 month is worth pushing for the extra £1.50.
A-holes as they now people on cable will never move back to the BT line.0 -

Has anyone had any luck in getting VM to cancel their contract because of this increase? Also, could I cancel ALL of my services from them or does the increase only affect 1 service and so I can only cancel that service? They're putting mine up by £3.50 plus the e-bill discount removal means an extra £4.50 per month !0
