That's true, and I just did a Google search and 'slipped' or missing IUD's are the 2 most common reasons for a pregnancy whilst relying on the IUD as a method of contraception.

They recommend that you do a quick check, to feel the strings, after every period to ensure it hasn't come out during your period. Have you been doing this? If so, did you do it recently? If not, it's possible it has come out without your noticing.

ETA: Jenny - Docs can often come accross as being rude, unintentionally, because they are looking it from a purely medical facts basis. From the docs point of view, the chances of conception whilst using an IUD, are less than 1%. He doesn't have any emotion attached to it, nor is he experiencing any of the symptoms you are (which could be symptoms of something else), so he's a) just stating the facts in a rather blunt way (and without understanding the emotions etc that you feel) and b) probably doesn't want to give you false hope or misdiagnose due to the potential of legal action.

Also, whilst you recognise that the symptoms are not the norm for you, he hasn't had your years of experience with your own body and recognising the normal pattern for you. So, that leaves him with the medical facts that there is only a less than 1% chance (IF your IUD hasn't slipped or come out). You just have to remember that you could be that 1%, or that the IUD has gone walkabout etc.

I know it's upsetting, but I'm sure he didn't mean to come accross so blunt and patronising. And, one way or the other, you will find out soon enough and if you are, you can be content in the knowledge that you know your body THAT well. ((HUGS))

hey ladies got something to cheer you up here.

My grandad is 80 next week and he is always hard to buy for, partly because they are well off and can buy what they like. we are all meeting for a big family meal next week and they have asked for no presents but a charity donation to somewhere of your choice. I didn't have one in particular but as my little furrball snuggled on my lap tonight i thought of the cats protection as he has a cat he is dotty over! off i went and when I was done it came up with 'thanks for donating your donation has paid for two igloos for elderly cats to sleep in!' quite appropriate for an 80th and even more when you think his mog lives in the airing cupboard!!

Jen151 - lovely nurse from NHS called me back and whilst professional she also understood what I was describing :) I have to say though that the doctor I spoke about previously is actually a really nice doctor to be honest :) I think it's as you say euronorris - he's coming from a medical point of view :)
Ok gotta go - shattered x
