    Hello everyone

I hope you don't mind me posting, I've been a lurker on this board since November 2009 when we first started ttc.

I got my first ever BFP on Friday and because I've always found this board so helpful I wanted to give something back a bit and thought I'd post what worked for me. I know everyone's different but I hope this helps someone or at the very least gives someone hope.

Bit about me: I'm 32, DH is 40, neither of us have ever had a baby before. I have long cycles - usually ov around day 25 and have a 10 day luteal phase.

Here's what I did this month, which seems to have worked...

Charted my temps - been doing this since June 2010 and it's what helped me work out my o date. Invaluable. Recommend Fertility Friend.

Used opks - to reinforce what my temps were showing me, don't rely only on these though - this cycle I had 3 pos opks after I'd ov'd which could have been misleading, so use with temps to work things out.

From cd14 (for me but if you have a shorter cycle would say sooner) bd'd every other day, then around 5 days before I thought I might o we aimed for once a day. Kept up bd through positive opks until sure temp rise. As it was we bd's every day for three days before o, on o day and the day after o.

Took cough medicine with guaifenesin in from around 8 days before o until it ran out. Had a teaspoon three times a day.

After bd always propped my bum up on pillows and lay for at least half an hour. Sexy!

    Didn't drink alcohol at all.

Drank one cup of tea per day, I don't normally drink much caffeine but I read tea helps ttc.

Kept my feet and lower back warm, made sure I was aways comfortable.

    Used preseed for bd.

I got my bfp at 11dpo. The thing I realised is that things aren't text book. Because of the things I'd read I worried about my long cycle, my short luteal phase and everything else. I looked for triphasic charts, implantation dips and implantation bleeding, I searched for symptoms.

When it actually happened to me there were none of these signs. On the morning my period was due (11dpo) my temp dropped a bit (I was expecting a spike if I was pg), I didn't feel nauseus, need to wee a lot or anything else - the only sign was my lack of period. I felt I was getting my period and still do have mild af cramps.

So my advice would be, don't put pressure on yourself if you aren't a 'textbook' case with a 28 day cycle and o on day 14, you're still 'normal'. Don't beat yourself up searching for 'perfect' pregnancy signs and don't give yourself heartache by testing early - make things easy on yourself and wait till af is late or at least due. The rollercoaster of emotions you go through when testing early isn't good for you - I know - I've tested early ALOT!

It's easier said than done but have faith, it will happen for you, look after yourself, love your other half (don't make them feel like a baby making machine!) and know your cycle so you can bd at the right time. That's what will work.

I wish you all lots of luck

    xx

Very interesting reading, thanks boopster! Happy and healthy BFP for you too! x

Bigzippy - Same goes for you my dear. I hope your cycles become more regular in future.
Cheers ears. :) Shall discuss options with GP tomoz and see what can be done... in the mean time, I made a v tasty potato and leek soup last night :D I think it's a testament to how well we're doing on the new eating plan that the shopping came 48hrs ago, and when I went to the multipack of crisps before they weren't even opened yet! Unheard of in this house!!

    *Exactly* my problem.

Me three! I don't think I'd mind if someone said I wouldn't get a BFP for a year as long as I knew it was coming and when!

You sound very much like me Colli ... I would love to know exactly when so I stop obsessing about it! At least I think I have regulated and got my temperature thing coming so maybe just maybe I can get my timings right soon :T

I'd settle for "it WILL happen, within x time" I think. For the last 15years I've always been scared to take it for granted :o
... so superstitious (SP?) or not I hope she is correct :)
    Me too :)

I'm in the process of being diagnosed with IBS. Waiting for confirmation appointment with GP next Friday. I have heard bout peppermint oil/tea so will buy some today. Have been having chamomille tea before bed which helps to settle it a bit more.
It's a tedious process isn't it? I've got it too - have been diagnosed since I was 17 when they took me into hospital thinking I had appendicitis (it wasn't) or ectopic pregnancy (it would've had to be the immaculate conception! :rotfl:)

QQ - my BMI is perfect? That's not what the Wii tells me, but that's why I don't like it! lol. Tells me I have to drop to 21 to be 'ideal'. Pffff, jog on Wii, jog on!

    :rotfl:

the wii fit is a cheeky bggr! had a wee shot at my pals 'have you been eating cakes?' it said
This sort of stuff is exactly what puts me off the wii fit!
The BMI scale really is only good as a very rough guide. Only marginally improved if you actually do arm/hip/back etc measurements. It doesn't take into account bone density or buzoom (;)) size or the fact that muscle weighs more than fat!

You see the back of my head?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Allow me to explain... :D We all know bits and pieces about each other - some of us have shared what we do for a living, how old we are, etc. You are the most 'reseved' and don't give too much away iykwim so, I think my subconscious can't "picture" you as I don't know how I think you would look. Most people you can picture just by their writing style but for some reason, I have trouble picturing you as you're writings are always about others (which is a lovely trait) so, when I think about what you would look like in RL, I see 'you' as a figure who everyone looks up to. You care a lot about other people. I see you quite high up (maybe tall?) and I can only see the back of your head. You have beautiful hair by the way :rotfl:

Ok, so I am a freak but I remember people better if I can picture them (or things I associate them with) and I have a hard time picturing you :p Also - I think you travel which makes it difficult for me to 'place' you as I am aware you're not always in the same place

    It's all about association -
Euro - I always see windmills when I think of you and I think you are outgoing
pawpurrs - the colour light blue, like this ;)
phunkles - the weird man at your oh's flat and trains (maybe cause you travel to see oh?) and i think you like things done a certain way
    deborahmcgeachy - scotland

I can't think of anymore right now. I have labeled you all!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

my CM has had the same consistency as EWCM for the last few days, but isn't EW due to me spotting :o Sorry, see, TMI. And then skin outbreak starting yesterday, and lower abdominal pain today. Mmmmm, we shall see, I suppose.
