    Hi ladies
Also I have hypothyroidism, which is well controlled at the moment, I've been on a stable dose for 3 years. I've heard that low thryoxine levels in pregnancy can cause development issues. Does anyone know how pro-active GPs are about managing this, as when I asked the GP today she was REALLY vague!

Just in case it's relevant to any advice, I'll be 30 at Christmas, I'm a bit overweight now, but hopefully won't be by then! As far as I know my mum had no problems conceiving, although both her labours were difficult and ended in emergency C sections due to failure to progress (or lazy cervix as it was known back then :rotfl:)

    Welcome to the lovely thread!
I also have hypothyroidism, once I was pregnany with DD1 I had blood tests taken every month by the midwives to keep a check on levels, DD1 was born a fortnight late by emergency c section weighing 9lb 13.5 oz. No development issues at all.

With regards to the pill I would come off them earlier than later to let your body get back in to a natural routine and use another form of protection if you aren't ready to TTC just yet.

Keep popping in coz all the ladies here have tons of useful information and are a real friendly bunch.

    Hi ladies

DH and I want to start TTC early next year, and I'm after a bit of advice. I'm on Cerazette (mini-pill) and have been on the pill for 12 years (combined pill (microgynon) for 8 years, cerazette for last 4) I asked my GP today, and she said there should be no effect on fertility, so only to come off 1-2 months before we want to start TTC and wait for a normal cycle so it's easier to work out due date etc. I'd been thinking I should stop 6 months beforehand to let everything settle down and get used to my natural cycle (whatever that's like :o) Does anyone have any experience of stopping the mini-pill after such a long time? I haven't had a natural period since I was 16, and none at all for the last 4.

    Hi LittleMoog and welcome!

I am also waiting to TTC. Hoping for end of this year, if not beginning of next (like you! :D).

I was on the combined pill since I was 13 (now 28), and was also on Microgynon for the last 10 years or so. I have recently come off this as I was experiencing a lot of headaches and migraines, and the combined pill is not good for that. They have disappeared since I came off the pill last month.

Since then, I have been completely natural, but wanted a more reliable (and less fussy) form of contraception than condoms until we are ready. So, I did a little research and discussed with my doctor about having an IUD fitted (also referred to as the coil). As it is the non hormonal one, I should retain a natural cycle (allowing me to figure out what is normal for me before we start TTC), and it can also be removed at any time, for any reason. Have you considered this as an interim measure?

Oh, and be warned, your natural period, and the symptoms before it may be a bit of a shock to the system. Mine sure was! So be prepared and have a hot water bottle and Ibuprofen on hand for when it's due.

Either way, I think it is good idea to stop the mini pill about 6 months before so you can figure out your natural cycle, as you say.

I have no idea about the thyroid issue though, sorry.

Talking of difficult labours, my friend's sister gave birth last week and was in labour for over 3 days! I think she's been put off for life! :rotfl:

3 days.... I was in labour for 5!! Started on the Saturday morning, went to hospital they said oh yes you're in labour go home...
Same every day until the Wednesday when they decided that as I was a fortnight over due now they would try and hurry me along, thats the bit I wouldn't be doing again, the induceing cream/gel was agony!!
Then after still no improvement it was in for a cut and shut!!
Ah well I have her now thats all that matters, but I have to say I would have had another one within months, even though I had a hard pregnancy, morning sickness all the way through all times of day and night.
Still trying now though!! Ahhh keeping fingers crossed!!

Thanks, that's good to know! GP didn't seem to know what they would do, so i guess that's managed by the midwife services here.

I qualify for my work's maternity package in September, so am thinking I'll stay on the pill until then, just to be safe. That should give us 4-6months before properly starting ttc.

I can't really remember what my natural cycle was like, I have no idea how long it was or anything :o something to look forward to eh? :rotfl:

My mum was in labour for 3 days with me, induced Christmas eve, born boxing day by emergency CS :o

I'll probably keep lurking for the next few months, but in the nicest possible way I hope none of you are still here when I arrive in earnest!

I was positive I did. But whys it dropped.
Estrogen surges a bit in the middle of LP which can cause the drop in temp as well as ewcm lookalike. Nothing to worry about if it goes back up again soon:)

    Hi LittleMoog:wave:
I think you should get off the pills as soon as possible, as it can take months to get the cycles back to normal. Don't forget to take folic acid at least 3 months before ttc, it's good for DH/OH too;)

It's great that you have your hypothyroidism under control:cool: I don't know if all thyroid meds are safe for ttc, but I know people take them for ttc, so some must be safe, but better check it to be sure:)

bigzippy - hope you manage to get to docs, good luck
Thanks. I went, and I have an infection - so I'm on antibiotics. She sent the samples off to test fully, and if there's anything dodgy they'll expedite my Urology appt. If I get any worse I'm to 'go straight to A&E' ...always reassuring...!
