Trying for a Baby Part Six

Emsbet,
This is quite useful info,
In a bout 85% of normal pregnancies, the hCG level will double every 48 - 72 hours. As you get further along in pregnancy and the hCG level gets higher, the time it takes to double can increase to about every 96 hours.
Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.
An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.
The hCG hormone is measured in milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/ml).
A transvaginal ultrasound should be able to show at least a gestational sac once the hCG levels have reached between 1,000 - 2,000mIU/ml. Because levels can differentiate so much and conception dating can be wrong, a diagnosis should not be made by ultrasound findings until the hCG level has reached at least 2,000.
A single hCG reading is not enough information for most diagnoses. When there is a question regarding the health of the pregnancy, multiple testings of hCG done a couple of days apart give a more accurate assessment of the situation.
The hCG levels should not be used to date a pregnancy since these numbers can vary so widely.
There are two common types of hCG tests. A qualitative hCG test detects if hCG is present in the blood. A quantitative hCG test (or beta hCG) measures the amount of hCG actually present in the blood.
Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :
3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
So im guessing they are waiting to see if your levels rise ? The thinking goes if you are no longer pregnant the levels will continue to drop and you will get a negative result on the HPT as it drops below the 25 miu.
Im confused for you though, I would have thought your levels would have dropped by now. How many weeks would you be by your dates ?Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -
QQ I thought GG was saying that you need less sensitive OPKs if you get positives all the time on OPKs. I've NEVER had a positive.:huh:Even though I can’t TTC at the moment I hope you guys don’t mind me hanging around here. Now that I’ve started having periods I’m going to continue to track my cycle and I’m going to start temping to try and get an understanding of how my body operates which will help me once I can resume TTCing.
I know I've read it but my memory's terrible - how long do they not recommend TTCing? Til after the treatment? And no, of course we don't mind you sticking aroundIn fact, we may well be offended if you left

I loved the last series and especially Caitlyn. Her and her partner for so brave for giving their baby up for adoption. They just wanted her to have an amazing life which is so sweet. I couldn't have done it myself
Farrah makes me want to give her a slap half the time...ditto Amber and Gary. But I get why they're like that. It's a shame for them. Tyler's well sweet. And no, I wouldn't be able to do it either.Kaemi- Thanks, I will have a look at that as well! I also read it as "Ford Focus".
Hi all!
So, after being a long-time lurker I've finally decided to come into the light and join you lovely lot :rotfl:
So, I know a few other ladies here also have PCOS and are TTC, since the Doc was so useless and only listened and took the tests when I strongly suggested they do so, I was hoping for a bit of advice, and possibly any ideas on how to manage PCOS better? I'm not very overweight (maybe BMI 25.5) but have joined a gym and have cut all refined sugar and wheat out of my diet to bring myself back down into the recommended range again. Am open to suggestions and hoping for some of all your PMA to rub off on me :T
So they've done the blood test but nothing else? Are you going to see a gynae? Are they gonna do a scan? Are they going to follow up on that initial test in any way? (I have PCOS too btw)"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -

Thanks for that. I'd seen the levels somewhere too. I would have been six weeks which would mean my levels are too low.... but I'm not 100% sure when I ov'd.
The annoying thing is they at first said they would do a further blood test on Saturday which would have meant less waiting. The thing is I never had more than a faint line which is why I used the digi. I guess there is a remote possibility that I ov'd later than I thought and my body is slow to produce HCG but I think it more likely that I miscarried as they couldn't see anything and if it was just a little early I think they would have been able to see the sac.

Sorry emsbet, I completely forgot to say I'm sorry it wasn't better news at the scan, and I'm also sorry that it's not the clear cut answer I suspect you wanted/needed.
Having some major issues with nerve pain (from the ME and fibromyalgia) and PMA is low atm. I've had a massive drop in my temp today too, and I've no idea what that means, but I'm not all that hopeful that I've ovulated any more. I think my body's just c0cking me about now tbh
I'll have to revisit the PMA for the day thing later..."I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
Also forgot to say  welcome to legalblonde! Where's my head at at all?"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0

Evening all,
So sorry to hear your news emsbet. Fingers crossed you and your DH will conceive again soon.
Hugs for 2ba3c too on your BFN. I too had an unwelcome shock this morning when I nipped to the loo before the kids arrived and found blood. Don't know if AF has arrived early, or if it is some sort of spotting. Will wait for a couple of days though and see what happens.
It is obviously because all of our babies want to arrive at the same time so that they can be online friends too.
Glad you've managed to talk things through with your DH fannyanna and you're feeling a bit more positive. Keep us updated so we can send good luck vibes at the appropriate time.
Have a good time away QQ (if you can have fun when you're working). We'll miss you!
Welcome to scarly.
Hugs for all who need or want them,

As I'm not doing so well with my own PMA of the day I've found a few quotes that might help and I thought might help a few others....
"In the midst of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer."
Albert Camus
"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time"
Thomas Edison
"Turn your face to the sun, and the shadows fall behind you."
Maori Proverb
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and conveniences, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy"
Martin Luther King Jr
"We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope."
Martin Luther King Jr"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."and my favourite....
Confucious
"If you eat a live toad first thing in the morning, nothing worse can happen for the rest of the day."
