The Great 'What to do in the event of redundancy' Hunt

I was made redundant in December 2007.
As I was registered with several agencies I thought I would be able to get another job straight away even if it was only temp. After three weeks with no job I applied for jobseekers allowance but I have been refused, the 'decision maker' said no!. So my advice is register right away and get what you're entitled to. I now have a temp job for a few weeks to keep me going while I look for something permanent.
Stay positive! and Good Luck

Sorry to bump this thread, but...
I was made redundant yesterday after 14 years with the same employer along with 150+ people as the company went into administration. We were told that half the company branches were closing and the other half were to stay open for the foreseeable future.
From what I can gather, the directors / higher management have known this to be the case, but no consultation occurred between any staff members or any representitives.
As far as I know I should be given notice before I am made redundant (12 weeks, I believe) and should be notified of my redundancy formally such as by letter. Instead, I had to 'phone my place of work to get confirmation (and even then was just told to go home) as I was at one of the companys branches when an Administrator informed all the staff ( I was told that as my name wasn't on his list, I should check with my base office!).
Do I have any rights as far as the correct procedure doesn't seem to have been followed along with any payments?
I'm doubting whether a letter will turn up and if I'll even get any redundancy payments.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your news.
I've forgotten a lot about the employment law but I believe you are now a preferential creditor of the business and entitled to pay in lieu of the statutory notice up to a maximum of about £2.5K.
Be positive and persistent about the money that you are entitled to as there are timelines for dispute resolution if the administrators do not pay.For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Thanks Bismark. :-)
I'm off down to my local friendly CAB today to see an employment specialist as we believe that they didn't follow any proper procedure with notice, consultation and even tellingme as I had to 'phone my head office for confirmation (they woudln't phone me).
Does anyone think it's worth getting in touch with my mortgage lender and explaining the situation to them?
I only have sickness cover on it as I was told (and get this!) by my ex-employer when I orginally went for the mortgage that it wasn't worth getting unemployment cover as we'd always get plenty of warning if anything like redundancies came up.
Typical.
Still, as they are still trading I believe it's time to (as the saying goes) 'Take them to the cleaners'.
Thanks again!0 -
Hi
My voluntary redundancy was provisonally accepted on the 2nd of May and I received confirmation of acceptance a week later followed the next day by my Redundancy Payment, week in hand, holiday pay and 12 weeks Payment in Lieu of Notice which appears to have National Insurance taken off (£94)
Could anyone tell me how soon I need to contact the Jobcentre etc?
Also both my letters state that the company has accepted my voluntary redundancy Will this wording affect any JSA claim?
Thanks in advance for any help0 -

I still went to the Job Centre to 'register' though...presumably so as to get my 'stamp' paid?
(Luckily I'd bagged a job (and a salary increase) during my 'consultation period', but I couldn't start until a month later)

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated
I've seen on other threads on this site that I would need to register to keep my "stamp" contributions but as my 12 weeks Payment in Lieu of Notice already has National Insurance taken off, do I still need to register? (I realise I will need to contact them when the 12 weeks is up in order to claim benefits etc)
Thanks once again0 -
I have been with the company im in for only about 6 months. Am I entitled to Redundancy pay? Please email me at marcoliver_1@hotmail.com
