Sorry had to smile at this.

    11 years and I will get £13k.

I would wager there are even a lot getting a lot less than even this.

  • Was given redundancy notice yesterday, 2wk consultation period, official notice in Dec and 12wk notice ending March 2011. It's a local authority department and most are being made redundant. Was tuped there in April but new govt has removed 3yr ring fence.

    Thanks for this post.
  • Hi all, I'll be most grateful to receive some redundancy info.

    I'm under a 4 week redundancy notice ending 31st of March 2011.

I applied for a totally different role, junior grade, less pay, different dept but with the same employer and learnt on Friday I was successful at interview and will be offered the role but they're still deliberating at what amount. (The maximum amount is less than my current wage).

I TUPEd to this organisation in April 2010 and my current redundancy terms are at one month for one year and I currently have 2 years and 3 months (will be 2yrs and 6months at the time of redundancy/ end of emp). My current employer says the calculation will be completed years. Is that right? My current tupe terms are under cscs. I thought it will include pro rated year too.

2, If I accept the new role it will mean detrimental changes to my current employment terms and conditions ie maternity leave, annual leave etc and also because there is a real risk of future redundancies and this will mean at the lesser rate of 1 week per year.
How can I ask that this new role be a new employment? Could I ask to start in 6weeks and try to get immediate redundancy for my current department?
Though my redundancy pay under cscs is not a lot it's much better than the one I'll be transferred to and I really need the money. I'm enrolling for a program that will cost me a couple of thousands of pounds and the money will help towards that.

    Thanks.

  • I wonder if anyone can answer this one for me? I took voluntary severance from my employer at the end of July 2011 and took my tax-free lump sum. No one seems to be able to tell me if I could potentially go back and work for the same employer without incurring tax on this lump sum - or if I can, how long I would have to wait until I go back? Before I left I sought information from various people, but nothing conclusive came of it. Some people seem to think I can't return within one year - but is that one TAX year (ie, until after the April following my severance) or one CALENDAR year (12 months later)

Any bright tax sparks out there?
    Anyone got any ideas?
  • hi my husband started this new job approx 5mths ago on a 3mth trial contract n they said after that he would be on a perminant one but they didnt they gave him and others another 3 mth contract which ends in jan 11th 2012

I know that this is a really silly question, but my husband has just been given notice that there are going to be redundancies of his skill set at work and he is in the at risk group - is there any insurance policy I can take out at this stage that will pay out if he is to be made redundant in the next 2 months?

TBH I already know the answer to this but panic is starting to set in!
  • Current employer seems to think that I am a square peg in a round hole. They don't want to sack me and I have no intention to resign. They have suggested I go explore possible settlement scenarios and there are some which are totally legal but minimise tax paid as part of the settlement. They would then listen to what I may be able to suggest. Any advice or web links so I can read up?. If they were not able to accommodate I would likely follow an 'unfair' route but that gets messy for all parties.

My hubby is most likely going to be made redundant shortly. He will get a small pension and a lump sum but this may take a few weeks to come through, but will he be able to sign on while he looks for another job. He will be 60 in a few months time and I work 30 hours a week term time only.

Also if he takes voluntary redundancy will be able to sign on the same as if they decided to make him redundant anyway?

Yes, he will still be redundant, doesn't matter if it's voluntary or compulsory and he'll be entitled to CB JSA for 26 weeks. After the 26 weeks he won't be entitled to IB JSA because you are working.
