My company has a voluntary redundancy scheme in operation at the moment. If I knew that I could get another similar paid job I would volunteer and take the money thank you!
I am having interviews at other companies at the moment, but I will not know if I am to be offered a job until after the last date for applying for the scheme has passed.
Can I apply for voluntary redundancy before the deadline, and if it is offered to me can I then decline it if I have failed to get another job - or am I forced to go through with accepting voluntary redundancy once I have applied?

>Rant over…………until the next time!!!<
I would guess that the benefits people are mostly dealing with the never worked/won't work underclass, so don't give two hoots about wasting their time. When I was signing on between jobs (3 months), the benefits people were quite comical in how seriously they me took missing one of their weekly meetings; looking around at all the Vicky Pollards and their bawling wains, they must have been flummoxed dealing with someone with a realtistic chance of getting back into work.0 -
I have just been "Tupe'd" across to an outsourcing company who intends to move some roles offshore.
At this time I do not know if my role is at risk and I have not been informed by my employer that my role may be at risk.
I have looked at some application forms for unemployment protection and they do ask if I am "aware" of any possibility of becoming unemployed.
Given the lack of information provided by my employer, would it be fraudulent to say no to this type of question?

Hi
Sorry but want to advise a friend (who is being made redundant at end of June) - can anyone of you guys help?
Can she sign on immediately after her last day at work (even though she'll get redundancy pay)?
OR
Can she start a new job immediately the following week?
I hope (and think) the answer is YES!
Thanks

Ste,
fairly sure that you can start a new job the next day & would advise that she contact the job centre to find out about benefits asap.
sorry if this comes too late.
am now being made redundant after a full year of being bullied, harrased & requests for info ignored.
am taking my company to a tribunal for discrimination, breach of contract & unfair dismissal.
My advise to EVERYONE but particularly to those ladies who are being made redundant whilst on/after mat leave is get the best solicitor you can afford. It takes time, energy & a hell of a lot of patience but with determination you'll get there.
I have a barrister that specialises in discrimination cases. I thought it was the most sad thing that 95% of the cases she takes are on behalf of women who are being discriminated against for having had a baby. It's horrendous but true.0 -
Can anyone help with advice for someone who is being made redundant and is over 60 ? Very old fashioned attitude and doesn`t want to tell young bucks at the Job Centre all of his personal details and how much money he is getting because he won`t be entitled to any benefits anyway! Really disallusioned that he`s worked all his life and , now when he needs it, he won`t be entitled to any sort of help just because he has a little bit of savings and also £35K redundancy money. He is on max State Pension (worked snce aged 15) so no need to have NI contributions paid.
Finances mean that he can`t afford to retire, needs at least a part-time job.
Any help/advice greatly appreciated.0 -
If the redundant person is not entitled to any benefits, is over 60 and is due to receive £35K redundancy money, the only advice I can give is that it might be worth talking to your company (if you're currently still in employment and in their pension scheme) to see if you can put the £5K surplus of redundancy payments over £30K into your pension fund, as I believe any redundancy payments over £30K are taxed at your highest rate. Why give the Chancellor any money if you can avoid it, and this would slightly boost your pension income.
The only other advice I can offer (having been made redundant late in life myself) is to swallow your pride, get a decent haircut, smarten yourself up, take your date of birth off your CV and contact B & Q if you have one nearby, as they're happy to employ older people. Adopt the mentality that you're a long way off writing yourself off, so why should you let other people do it. Good luck. There IS life after redundancy as many people on this thread will testify.0 -
I was made redundant 10 years ago and was very forutnate in getting nearly a years salary due to the terms and pay in lieu of notice etc, I was also very lucky in having another job to go to which was great. Being made redundant has actually helped us financially. But it was a stressful and worrying time, and I found that to manage this it helped being in control which for me meant applying for jobs, writing letters to companies on spec etc. 30 applications got me 3 interviews and one job offer which I took and started immediately the redundancy came through.
Redundancy is not an easy experience to get through but for me it has worked out for the best.
My tips include negotiating to purchase my company car at a low rate... 4 years later able to sell with one owner history, taking control of my own future through job applications, getting new qualifications in my case a basic skills teaching certificate through voluntary work with Second chance adult literacy ( free qualification plus experience for my CV), cutting back on all non essential expenditure, agreeing a budget and sticking to it, claiming for any benefits that entitled to ( in the end I didn't need to do this but was ready to) and being honest and realistic with the rest of the family about what is happening and the imapct it could have on the families lifestyle.
Hope this helps0 -
However, its unusual to get made redundant and get escorted from teh premises to it's likely you have loads of time to get your ex employee's names/phone snumbers/addresses.
i got escorted from the premisis yesterday (to my car) - along with another 7 people!Willow: I knew it, I knew it, well not in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know!0 -
Would anyone know anything about constructive dismissal?
I have been put on short time (unpaid) for the next 2 weeks, i have also had my supervisors allowance deducted from my pay without any prior warning from management.
As i cannot afford to go 2 weeks without pay i need to find another job, but a few months ago i was sent on a course, and if i leave of my own accord i have been told that i have to pay back the cost of this course (i didnt want to go on this course)Last Cigarette 24/6/090
