Last year when things were very tight I 'half' made a lot of the gifts.
I made my own Mocha mix and presented it with a cup that I know the receiver had an interest in. gardening, starsighn, you get the idea, in a pretty box with a few marshmallows in a little bag.
The other thing that I did that seemed to be well received was to get a nice jar,
and inside put the ingredients to something that I know they liked, Soup Mixes, with the different lentils making a different colour layer, Or cranberry and orange scone mix can look good, I then got some material (in my case a pillow case from the goodwill cut up and hemmed.
I then put directions on the gift tag.
Here is the Mocha Mix Ingredients.
1 cup coffee creamer.
1 cup powdered sugar.
1/2 cup coffee.
1/2 cocoa.
1/2 tsp salt.
You can a little cinnamon, but thats up to you.Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

My daughters and I made chocolates for all of their friends and teachers (and some family and other friends too), and they absolutely loved them. My daughter was soooooo pleased when her teacher showed the class the gift that she had made.
We bought boxes (really cheap at about 13p each) and decorated them, and everyone could see how much had gone into them.1 -
Thanks to Thriftlady's thread on the preserving year, I have finally got round to doing something I have wanted to do for ages. I have made some onion marmalade, and seville orange marmalade, and I have a big list of others to make.
I gave some of my seville orange marmalade to a couple of people on freecycle today (as a thank you) and they were incredibly well received - they were absolutely delighted, so it has given me a boost to carry on :j :j
I love this thread and I am so cross to hear that some people haven't received they gifts very well - how absolutely rude  Don't they realise it would be so much easier to go out to a shop and pick something up off the shelf. Homemade gifts are so much more personal and thoughtful. OK, rant over ....1 -
one way to look at it is if they dont like your gifts you have spent your hard earned cash and time on creating they should just say that way you donthave to waste your time or money doing it the following year, that sould be more polite of people if they dont want nice homemade gifts (luckily so far everyone has liked mine in the past)1

Apologies if this has already been done!
My 8yr old DD and I have challenged ourselves to make our own presents for a year. :-)
So far we've come up with ideas for HM jams (we get lots of free fruit), cards, keepsake boxes, knitted or crochet scarves (need to learn to knit first, a trip to the library or ytube will help!)
Biscuits, CD'S, and learning how to make soap :-)
